Bill Hader Got Fired From His Movie Theater Job for Spoiling ‘Titanic’ to the Sorority Girls Who Made Fun of Him and Called Him Charles Manson: ‘Leo Dies!’

Prior to becoming a renowned “Saturday Night Live” figure and an Emmy-winning star of “Barry”, Bill Hader had a less successful stint working at a cinema, selling tickets. He shared this amusing anecdote on John Mulaney’s Netflix show, “Everybody’s Live With John Mulaney”. The story goes that Hader was once terminated from the job after he retaliated against some troublesome sorority girls by revealing the ending of “Titanic” to them.

According to Hader, he lost his job at the movie theater because of an incident involving ‘Titanic’. Since the film hadn’t been released yet, a sorority had rented out the theater. As they blocked the doorway, Hader politely asked them to move. However, they made fun of him, comparing him to Charles Manson. With his bowtie and cummerbund, Hader may have resembled Manson a bit. Despite his pleas, they refused to budge.

When they entered, I handed over the tickets and remarked, ‘Have a great movie, the ship sinks at the end, Leo perishes,'” he added. “To which they replied, ‘No, he doesn’t.’ I responded, ‘You may believe him to be sleeping. But he is frozen solid.’ This made them realize.”

“Upon entering, I distributed the tickets and said, ‘Enjoy the film, the boat submerges at the end, Leonardo DiCaprio dies,'” he went on. “They responded, ‘No way!’ I replied, ‘You might think he’s just sleeping, but he’s actually frozen.’ This clarified it for them.

Hader observed that the manager appeared cheerful and said, “Hi, Bill. I’m afraid I have to let you go.” He seemed to take pleasure in it, but he couldn’t meet my gaze.

The character portrayed by DiCaprio, Jack, ultimately meets his end in “Titanic,” a movie released in 1997 and directed by James Cameron. This plot twist has ignited numerous discussions over the years, with some spectators believing there was sufficient space on the door for both Jack and Rose (played by Kate Winslet) to survive the frigid waters. However, a study conducted by Cameron himself in 2022 concluded that only one person could have survived under those conditions.

Cameron stated that we conducted extensive research aimed at providing definitive proof on this matter. We collaborated with a forensic expert specializing in hypothermia, who replicated the raft from the movie. Subsequently, we had two stunt performers of similar body mass to Kate and Leo, both equipped with sensors throughout their bodies, submerged in icy water. Our examination revealed that it was impossible for both individuals to have survived under various scenarios; only one could have survived in such conditions.

Hader’s episode of “Everybody’s Live With John Mulaney” is now available to stream on Netflix.
