Betting on Pants Won Late Night This Week

To begin with, it’s time to pay tribute to the remarkable show, “After Midnight“. I’ve previously shared my thoughts on how it revolutionized the late-night scene, offering a unique British-style panel format. Now that it has truly ended, I find myself getting angry all over again due to its exceptional quality. The show provided a platform for numerous individuals who would not normally have the opportunity to appear on television. Who else will produce Chris Fleming’s plays, or humor Pete Holmes’s father jokes, or allow Lauren Cook to make her witty phone calls?

1: Which late-night show is awarding prizes?
2: Who is giving away such absurd prizes as Taylor Tomlinson’s old hair extensions?

Farewell to a one-of-a-kind gem.

Discussing recent late-night appearances, Yakov Smirnoff was on “The Tonight Show” this week and he was hilarious! Despite his resemblance to Vice President Biden in terms of forehead size, the audience couldn’t get enough of his jokes about uniquely American occurrences. In the end, he expressed heartfelt gratitude towards the American people for their warm reception towards immigrants like himself. It’s quite timely, as it seems we’re all experiencing and reacting to these extraordinary events in real-time, aren’t we?

Colman Domingo Sings!

During the Tony Awards last Sunday, I found it peculiar to see two actors investing their Hollywood resources in honoring the man behind “Splish Splash,” when it seems more fitting for Colman Domingo’s passion projects about Nat King Cole to be recognized, given his remarkable talent. Bobby Darin was indeed prolific, but true connoisseurs would agree that he was at best an average talent. It was impressive during Domingo’s appearance on The Late Show, as the band swiftly joined in when he started singing. Whether this was a pre-planned segment or if the band is exceptionally skilled and quickly found Domingo’s key, isn’t important. What truly matters is live music – it adds authenticity and creates a more lively and unscripted television experience.

After Midnight Panelists Are Going Through It

In the final episode of “Untangle This,” starring Milana Vayntrub, Affion Crockett, and Marcella Arguello, the discussion took a political turn right away. The act of untangling cords seemed to serve as a form of EMDR therapy, allowing the comedians to express their fears, dreams, and desires candidly. Vayntrub’s response about the cost of an underground bunker offered a psychological insight into her thoughts. Meanwhile, Arguello made a powerful statement when she pointed out that individualism, deeply ingrained in America, is causing widespread unhappiness. There was simply no show like this on traditional television.

Only Photograph Bryce Dallas Howard From Her Good Side

As a passionate cinephile, I stepped into the Clubhouse Playhouse, channeling the charisma of Lady Gaga and Seth Rogen’s favorite Vanderpump Rules cast member, Scheana Shay. I reenacted that heart-wrenching moment when Scheana was rejected by SURver Adam, playing it out for all to see. It felt like I was delivering the news that our bond was only meant to be friendship and not a romantic relationship. And then, under pressure, I found myself giving her a hug. Quite a harrowing experience!

Atsuko Okatsuka Loves L.A.

A long-time resident of Los Angeles, Atsuko Okatsuka, recently discussed the ongoing protests in L.A. during her appearance on Late Night With Seth Meyers. In a unique approach to find humor amidst a difficult period for the city, she referenced the Nightstalker. Remarkably, Okatsuka was once an undocumented immigrant, and it’s heartening to see her voice shared on national television. While many celebrities have expressed their opposition to the current ICE raids (with a notable exception being Dr. Phil, who seems to be supportive), none have been as humorous in their approach.

One Last Dumb Game for the Road

As a movie enthusiast, I’d rephrase it this way: “The game is straightforward: Predict the number of casual trousers a person has on. It’s simple, engaging, and something one can attempt with a modicum of confidence. Yet, it’s so absurd that it could pass as a game for the midnight hours. Just imagine, at the start of this segment, Taylor Tomlinson mentions Dominique Bañas asked numerous celebrities to participate in this bit, and they all declined like spineless, contemptible wretches. It’s delightful that Bañas got her moment on TV. However, I can’t help but wonder, wouldn’t it have been thrilling to see the character from ‘Tracker’ tear off trouser after trouser? Perhaps next week. Oh, wait a minute, never mind.
