As a movie connoisseur, I’m thrilled to announce that “Let It Rain,” the latest masterpiece by the brilliantly talented Oscar-nominated director Hannes Holm (of “A Man Called Ove” fame), has been acquired for international distribution by Beta Cinema. This captivating film features the charismatic Robert Gustafsson, who stole the show in the blockbuster hit “The 100-Year-Old Man.” I can hardly wait to see what this dynamic duo has in store for us!
The filming concludes towards the end of September, with Beta Cinema set to reveal initial footage during the upcoming American Film Market in October.
The narrative unfolds in a quaint Southern Swedish town, home to grumpy widower Ingmar who rigidly adheres to a structured routine. Following the loss of his spouse some years back, his bond with daughter Erika has grown strained. Besides Erika and an aggravating divorced neighbor named Burman, Ingmar’s life seems bereft of much else but his late wife’s roses.
In the midst of the longest and most arid summer anyone can remember, rain continues to elude us. Yet, in a strange twist of events or perhaps a stroke of luck, Ingmar unexpectedly finds himself center stage during an incident that promises not only to alter his life but also determine the future of the entire village.
The screenplay for this film was penned by Hannes Holm and Jonas Karlsson, inspired by Karlsson’s book “The Rain Man” (Regnmannen). John Christian Rosenlund (“The Wave,” “The King’s Choice,” “Hammarskjöld”) handled the cinematography, while Patrick Ryborn, Unlimited Stories led production in collaboration with Nordisk Film, SVT, Film i Skåne, Film i Väst, Nouvago Capital and DR. This project is backed by the Swedish Film Institute and the Nordic Film & TV Fund. Nordisk Film will distribute it across Scandinavia and plans to release “Let It Rain” during the Christmas season of 2025.
I found myself earning two Academy Award nominations for the heartwarming comedy “A Man Called Ove” (2015), a film about a cranky retiree whose life takes an unexpected turn following an unusual friendship. This movie proved to be a global sensation in 2016, raking in over $30 million at the box office worldwide, and eventually got remade as “A Man Called Otto,” starring none other than Tom Hanks.
Holm is one of Sweden’s most thriving filmmakers, boasting other chart-toppers such as “Adam & Eva” (1997), “Life Occurs” (2010) and the Andersson Trilogy (2012-2014), all of which broke Swedish box office records.

Jonas Karlsson, a popular Swedish actor who has co-written films like “The Snowman” and “Beck,” and was nominated for an Emmy for “Riding in Darkness,” takes on the role of the protagonist’s criminal partner, Burman. The cast is completed by Karin Lithman, known for “The Bridge,” and Emelia Sallhag.
Unlimited Stories is responsible for creating a variety of films, including “Hammarskjöld” (2023), “The Lost” (2022), “A Piece of My Heart” (2019), and the Sune Trilogy (2018-2020), as well as other productions.

When no straightforward solution is available, we eagerly embrace the extraordinary. What seems unrealistic becomes real due to a collective desire at a specific moment in time. ‘Let It Rain’ promises to be an emotionally resonant film that skillfully blends humor and drama. It will be told with affection and kindness, much like a great movie should.
Filming for ‘Let It Rain’ has concluded at the end of September, and it is now undergoing an extensive phase of post-production.
