Having delved into the gritty world of this masterpiece since its early days, I eagerly await each new installment with bated breath. The fact that Kouji Mori will be carrying on Miura’s legacy, using plans and thoughts left behind by the creator himself, fills me with a sense of anticipation that is rarely found in today’s entertainment landscape.
Following the sad demise of manga artist Kentaro Miura in 2021, there was some doubt about the future of his renowned dark fantasy series, Berserk. However, fans can breathe a sigh of relief as publisher Hakusensha and Miura’s long-time friend Kouji Mori have confirmed that the series will carry on. Excitingly, Dark Horse Manga is now accepting preorders for the first English paperback trade edition. Although it won’t be available until March 2025, you can secure Berserk Volume 42 for $15 through Amazon in advance.
The tale of Berserk’s continuation is intriguing, as before Miura passed away, he handed over his ideas and concepts for the series to Mori. Alongside documents like memos and character sketches left by Miura – plus the secret of how Miura intended to conclude Berserk – Mori consented to carry on the storyline under the condition: “I will only script the episodes that Miura discussed with me. I won’t expand it. I will not write episodes I don’t recall clearly. I will only put down the dialogues and narratives that Miura shared with me.”
