Berlinale Award Winner ‘Little Trouble Girls’ Sells in North America, U.K. and Ireland and More (EXCLUSIVE)

Urška Djukić’s film “Little Trouble Girls” was shown in the Perspectives section at Berlinale and won the FIPRESCI award. The movie has been sold to various regions, such as Kino Lorber for North America, BFI Distribution for the U.K. and Ireland, and also France, Germany, Benelux, among others. Heretic, based in Athens, is managing global sales for this film.

Djukić’s first film focuses on the story of 16-year-old Lucia, a shy girl, who becomes part of her Catholic school’s all-girl choir and develops a friendship with Ana-Maria, a well-liked and flirtatious student. However, when the choir goes to a rural convent for an intensive weekend of practice, Lucia’s feelings for a restoration worker challenge her bond with Ana-Maria and the other girls. As she deals with new environments and explores her budding sexuality, Lucia starts to doubt her beliefs and values, causing tension within the choir.

Apart from Kino Lorber, the film is also set to be distributed by several other companies this year. These include ASC for France, CineArt for Benelux, Grandfilm for Germany, Filmladen for Austria, Atalante for Spain, Artcam Films for the Czech Republic and Slovakia, No Comboi in Portugal, Arthouse Traffic in Ukraine, Andrews Film in Taiwan, First Distributors in Hong Kong. Additionally, it will be released in its native countries like Slovenia (Gustav Film) and Italy (Tucker Film).

Warner Bros. Discovery will air the movie following its cinema release, first on HBO Europe and their streaming service, Max.

This movie is a collaborative effort between Jozko Rutar and Miha Černec, produced under the banner of Spok Films (Slovenia), in partnership with Staragara IT (Italy), 365 Films (Croatia), Non Aligned Films (Serbia), Nosorogi and OINK (both Slovenia). The associate producer hails from France, known as Sister.

The film receives financial backing from several sources: the Slovenian Film Centre, Eurimages, RTV Slovenija, Viba Film, Italian Ministry of Culture – Directorate for Cinema and Audiovisual, FVG Flm Fund, FVG Film Commission, Croatian Audiovisual Centre, Film Centre Serbia, Re-act, Region Nouvelle Aquitaine, and Creative Europe Media.
