Ben Whishaw Expects James Bond Franchise to Drop Him as Q After Daniel Craig’s Exit: ‘I Think They’re Going to Start All Over With a New Cast’

As a devoted cinema enthusiast who has witnessed the evolution of James Bond over the years, I must admit that Ben Whishaw‘s portrayal of Q has been a refreshing addition to the franchise. His wit and charm have elevated the character, making him an essential part of the 007 universe. However, it seems that his tenure as Q might be coming to an end, which is quite disheartening for fans like me.

Ben Whishaw portrayed the character of Q, James Bond’s technology and weapons expert, in three 007 films alongside Daniel Craig. He made his debut in the franchise with the critically acclaimed “Skyfall” released in 2012, and also appeared in “Spectre” (2015) and “No Time to Die” (2021). The latter film marked the end of Craig’s tenure as Bond, leading Whishaw to speculate that his time as Q may also be coming to an end.

Recently, Whishaw expressed his belief that he won’t be part of the next James Bond movie. He suspects they’ll start fresh with an entirely new cast, though he’s not certain about this since he hasn’t been informed.

He suggested that perhaps it requires fresh energy and a different set of individuals,” he noted. “And should they request it, I would certainly be on board.” (Informal: If they asked, I’d definitely join in.)

Information about the future direction of the Bond series remains unclear, following the release of “No Time to Die.” Producers Barbara Broccoli and Michael G. Wilson have shown no immediate plans to cast a new James Bond, after Daniel Craig’s departure from the role. As Craig’s version of 007 perished in “No Time to Die,” it could be questionable for actors like Whishaw and Harris (Moneypenny) to reprise their roles.

In March, it was reported by The Sun that Aaron Taylor-Johnson was offered the role of replacing Daniel Craig as the next James Bond. However, people close to the actor denied this claim, stating that he had not been cast for the role at that time.

Taylor-Johnson replied that he could only discuss what he was going to reveal when asked about Bond by Rolling Stone UK. He didn’t feel the need to have a predetermined future and instead expressed his confidence in being able to excel at anything that comes his way, saying: ‘I can do better than whatever’s drawn out for me.’

One individual expressing approval for Taylor-Johnson’s casting role is Pierce Brosnan, the actor known for playing Bond, who previously worked alongside Taylor-Johnson in the 2009 movie titled “The Greatest.

Brosnan believes that Taylor-Johnson possesses the skills, charm, and aptitude for playing Bond, without a doubt. He expressed this opinion during an interview on RTE Radio 1’s “The Ray D’Arcy Show.” When he heard about Taylor-Johnson’s potential to be Bond, he gave his approval, stating that he would certainly tip his hat to him.
