Ben Stiller bowled a perfect game with his new HBO Max series, and audiences have only gotten a taste.
I’m really excited about this new docuseries, Born to Bowl! So far, only the first episode of the five-part series, which Ben Stiller produced, is out, but it’s already grabbed my attention. It feels really fresh and different from a lot of other things I’ve been watching.
The show premiered on March 16, 2026, and quickly became a hit, landing in the top ten on HBO. It currently ranks tenth, following shows like The Single Life, Before the 90 Days, and Last Week Tonight with John Oliver. Popular series such as ER and Real Time with Bill Maher also appear on the list.
The documentary series Born to Bowl features narration by actor Liev Schreiber, who is famous for playing Victor Creed in X-Men Origins: Wolverine. The show offers an inside look at professional bowling, highlighting the top players competing on the Professional Bowlers Association Tour.
Five top bowlers—EJ Tackett, Jason Belmonte, Kyle Troup, Anthony Simonsen, and Cameron Crowe—are giving fans a behind-the-scenes look at their careers. The first episode focuses on Kyle Troup, nicknamed “The Pro with the Fro,” and his attempt to win the U.S. Open in Indianapolis, Indiana, for the second time.
This series follows the intense rivalry between Simonsen and Belmonte as they battle for a place at the U.S. Open. The following week, Tackett joins the competition, going head-to-head with both Belmonte and Simonsen for the lead. Episode four takes us to the World Series of Bowling in Reno, Nevada, where over 200 bowlers compete for the championship. The season concludes with the Tournament of Champions in Akron, Ohio.
As I’ve been watching, it’s clear these athletes are really battling – not just against each other, but also pushing through injuries and dealing with the pressure. According to PBA, it’s a real test of endurance and willpower. You really get invested in seeing them fight for that win and, honestly, the prize money seems pretty important to them too!
Ben Stiller has created a number of projects, and his latest is a documentary called Born to Bowl. Before that, he produced Stiller & Meara: Nothing is Lost, a project about his parents and their family history, in which he also appears. Both of his parents, Jerry Stiller and Anna Meara, were famous actors. The documentary, available on Apple TV, offers a fresh look at the comedic duo years after their passing.
You can watch new episodes of Born to Bowl on HBO Max every Monday at 9 p.m. The series finale will be available on April 13, 2026.
