Ben Stiller and John Turturro Tease ‘Severance’ Season 2: ‘We Are Delving Into the Unknown’

As a dedicated fan of “Severance,” I can’t help but feel a mix of excitement and anticipation as we gear up for Season 2. Having been through the rollercoaster ride that is waiting for a long-anticipated sequel, I fully understand Ben Stiller’s sentiments about the pressure to live up to audience expectations.

Finally, the long-awaited second season of “Severance” will debut on Apple TV+ on January 17, 2025, marking almost three years since the series first aired. Upon its return, this intriguing sci-fi office drama is expected to address several unanswered questions that arose from the Season 1 finale, keeping fans in eager anticipation.

According to John Turturro, who portrays character Irving, “I believe the upcoming second season will be quite intriguing.” He added this to EbMaster: “We are exploring mysteries that viewers have been anticipating, and we’re doing it gradually.

Ben Stiller, both the director and executive producer, eagerly anticipate that the fresh episodes will meet the high standards set by fans after a three-year break.

He found working on Season 2 of “Severance” fascinating, stating he’d never encountered a second season before because everything he’d worked on in the past got canceled. However, there’s a certain anticipation one might have when it comes to a beloved series, and for us, it’s been about meeting that expectation by staying true to our vision of what we believe the show should be and remaining dedicated to that.

The show “Severance” centers around a team of employees at a puzzling biotech firm who undergo an experimental process that separates their work lives from their personal ones. In this series, Adam Scott, Britt Lower, Patricia Arquette, Zach Cherry, and Christopher Walken are among the talented cast members. Unfortunately, filming for the first season of “Severance” was delayed due to the pandemic, and production on Season 2 faced challenges from Hollywood strikes and rumored creative disagreements.

Stiller mentioned that it’s been quite challenging and intriguing over the past few years while working on various projects. To ensure the best results, he’s keeping his focus on creating the finest possible season, mindful of the time it takes. Like many others, he gets impatient when things take too long, desiring the next season to arrive sooner. He empathizes with the anticipation people feel.

Stiller went on to say, “It’s been a lengthy process. I sincerely hope it turns out well. People often seek something that matches their past experiences and doesn’t disappoint them. So, I guess the best one can do is strive for excellence in what they believe is right.

Despite the Season 2 debut being several months off, Stiller is eagerly anticipating it. “I’m thrilled about it,” he said. “We poured all our efforts into it, and it’s been a delight to delve into the story, collaborate with these talented actors, and work alongside [series creator] Dan Erickson. I’ve never been part of something for such an extended period where the characters truly come alive, and the performers grasp them so profoundly, leading to a deeper evolution.

Stiller and Turturro dropped in at EbMaster’s Toronto Film Festival Studio, a venue co-sponsored by J.Crew and SharkNinja, to publicize their upcoming films “The Cut” and “Nutcrackers.
