This week’s episode centers around a frustrating conflict between Ben and Ellie. It’s unclear whether Ben’s poor management caused Ellie’s explosive temper, or vice versa. The episode begins with Ellie angrily leaving the kitchen right before dinner service. Daisy recognizes both sides of the issue: Ben’s leadership is clearly flawed, as this is the second crew member to become overwhelmed this month, but Ellie’s reaction is unacceptable. Just fifteen minutes before guests are served, Ellie flies into a rage, knocking things over as she goes. She tells Jason that Ben’s poor planning is setting her up for failure, and the mention of a personal issue nearly makes her cry. Jason promises to address Ben’s behavior, but urges Ellie to return to the kitchen, establish some boundaries, and focus on getting through dinner service.
Ben was completely blindsided by Ellie’s sudden outburst, even more so than Jason, who was already confused by the kitchen’s disarray. He hadn’t seen any signs that she was unhappy, and it happened right before they needed to start serving customers. It seemed her stress mirrored Ben’s own anxiety about getting dinner out on time – something he’d been actively working on. While a quick disagreement might have been manageable, Ellie remained upset when she returned to the kitchen. When Ben hesitantly said he wasn’t sure he could handle her attitude, she told him to deal with it and stop complaining. Daisy, who entered the kitchen at that moment, was stunned that anyone would speak to a manager that way.
I don’t think Ellie truly respects Ben as a manager or someone in charge. It appears she only acknowledges his authority when it’s convenient for her. She feels belittled by his use of affectionate terms because he’s her boss, and that’s understandable – it’s also why the rest of the team doesn’t mind when he calls people “darling.” However, when disagreements arise, Ellie treats Ben as an equal, confidently challenging his decisions. Before things escalated, Ellie hinted that she often felt like she was the one keeping Ben organized. It’s possible this feeling grew into the anger she eventually expressed.
Dinner service was surprisingly smooth, but the stress quickly moved from the kitchen to the crew mess, leaving João, Jason, and Eddy in awkward silence. Ben started second-guessing how he was plating dessert while Ellie washed dishes. He asked João for help resetting the plates, but Ellie snapped at him, insisting it was her job and she’d handle it. Later, while Ben took a break, Alesia sided with Ellie, saying Ben’s attitude was why she couldn’t work in the kitchen. I started to feel bad for Ben, especially since he was genuinely trying to calm things down with Ellie. He explained that he was stressed about falling behind on dinner, made worse by Ellie being busy with her own important tasks, and took responsibility for his part in the argument. But when he asked Ellie to consider her own reaction, she exploded at him, saying she was just standing up for herself. Realizing the conversation was going nowhere, Ben asked her to go to bed, but she refused, challenging him and repeatedly warning him not to push her. When Daisy arrived to mediate, Ellie shockingly accused Ben of abuse. Ben was stunned into silence – a rare occurrence for him. Finally, Daisy ordered Ellie back to her cabin, and she left. “I might have lost control of the kitchen,” Ben said, sounding unsure of himself.
While the drama continues, Mike is busy helping Alesia with cabin duties. She playfully tells him he’ll be a flight attendant soon, but also asks him to check the toilet paper and cabinet supplies – things she herself forgot earlier. Mike dislikes being given tasks, and Alesia admits in a private interview that she sees it as part of her role – she believes she’s the one in charge and that Mike needs management. Before this makes it too easy to defend Mike, he quickly proves why Jenna is often frustrated with him. After dinner, Marc and Clay requested wine, champagne, and chocolates for their room. Alesia asks Mike to deliver these items, but he decides he doesn’t need a list and gets distracted, stopping to find a drink for himself. As a result, the items aren’t in their room when Marc and Clay return, forcing Clay to ask Jenna about the order. Jenna, clearly annoyed, explains to Mike that this should have been done before he reached the room. She then vents to Daisy, saying it took Mike twenty minutes just to locate an ice bucket. Luckily, Clay is understanding.
It was a tough night on the boat. As everyone was winding down, Daisy and Ellie were talking about the argument that blew up in the galley, and I overheard João and Ben having a similar conversation. Daisy was trying to get Ellie to see that getting angry wouldn’t solve anything, while João, a bit bluntly, pointed out Ellie could just leave if she was that unhappy. But Ben seemed really worried he was making things worse, creating a ‘hostile environment,’ and he actually texted Jason asking for advice. Honestly, watching him in his confessional, you could tell he was genuinely hurt. He kept saying he would have immediately stopped with the nicknames if Ellie had just said something. It’s just… it’s become a habit for him, almost like a verbal tic. I even caught him slip up and call her ‘honey’ during dinner, and he had to correct himself. It’s clear this is a tricky situation.
Jason starts his day by talking to Daisy, who confirms that Ellie overstepped boundaries, though she also notes some issues with Ben’s leadership. He then speaks with Ben, urging him to maintain professionalism with Ellie and stop using affectionate nicknames. They’ll revisit the situation with the galley crew in a few days. Later, Jason calls Ellie to the bridge for a serious but understanding conversation. He acknowledges her feelings but emphasizes the need for professional conduct, explaining she should have used the proper complaint channels instead of reacting impulsively. Like with Ben, Jason asks Ellie to focus on finishing the charter. With a vow renewal approaching, he needs everyone to perform their best.
Ben already struggles to concentrate when things are good, but he gets even more easily distracted when problems arise. During breakfast, both Alex and Neshea sent their eggs back, saying they were too runny. They did appear watery, particularly the vegetable omelet, but it was frustrating that Neshea complained about her scrambled eggs being too soft, then said she was too full when Ben offered to make her a fresh plate. It didn’t make sense to complain if she wasn’t going to eat them. Ben decided the best approach for the day was to avoid interacting with Ellie as much as possible, and he asked her to clean the freezer to keep her out of sight. He figured she couldn’t be upset if he didn’t talk to her.
Things are busy all over the boat! Alesia tagged along with Betul for a beach trip – João really wants to make it a long, fun outing to buy the interior team some time to get everything perfect for the vow renewal. Honestly, Daisy is really hoping this event will make everyone forget about the interior’s little mishaps – you know, the panty liner incident, running out of toilet paper, the champagne being late. Meanwhile, I watched Jenna working her tail off on the sundeck decorations, while Mike just… annoyed her. He kept making terrible jokes and generally wasn’t helping at all. It was frustrating to watch, and Daisy just wants everyone to get along! On a brighter note, it seems like the tension between Jenna and Eddy is finally easing up. She’s starting to warm up to him again, and even joked about maybe planning their wedding someday. And things got a little silly when Jason playfully used Daisy and João to practice his officiant duties – they got to test-drive the altar, which was fun to watch!
In the end, everything comes together perfectly. Clay and Marc share heartfelt vows, and Jason gives a lovely speech, moving everyone to tears. The captain enjoys dinner with the guests, and it’s a success. Throughout the day, Ben works hard to win Ellie over, complimenting her cake decorating and even asking her to decorate the wedding cake. By nightfall, everyone is celebrating a job well done. The next morning goes off without a hitch – Ben nails the breakfast orders, Eddy expertly guides the docking process, and the guests depart with both tears and gratitude. As the season progresses, I’m continually impressed by how much João has changed for the better. He’s handled every mistake made by the deck team with grace and speed, and the deckhands are all happy with his leadership. The deck team is now working together seamlessly.
The situation wasn’t consistent across all departments. While collecting feedback cards, Daisy discovered a cleaning cloth left in a cabin’s nightstand. Alesia immediately blamed Mike, but the evidence showed she had used the same cloth to clean the nightstands just twenty minutes earlier. Alesia and Mike’s forgetfulness was a constant source of frustration for Jenna and Daisy. Elsewhere, Ben and Ellie had a serious talk to address their issues. Jason, preoccupied with a problem in the galley, called Ben and Ellie to the bridge before the crew meeting. He stressed his willingness to make changes if necessary, but urged them to find a way to communicate better. He then left them alone to work things out, using a tactic reminiscent of a childhood experience – essentially telling them they couldn’t leave until they resolved their differences. This approach worked with his sisters, but he doubted it would be as effective with Ben and Ellie, as he didn’t sense the same underlying affection between them.
