Bella Ramsey Says ‘I Didn’t Want’ Coming Out as Non-Binary to ‘Become a Headline,’ but It’s a ‘Good Thing’: ‘I’m Living More Freely’

Bella Ramsey initially felt uncertain about publicly identifying as non-binary, yet ultimately believes that this was the appropriate choice for them.

In a recent interview with The Guardian, Ramsey spoke about their decision to reveal their gender identity. Although “The Last of Us” actor occasionally wishes they hadn’t made this public announcement, they now feel able to live more openly and freely as a result.

Ramsey expressed regret for looking back, as he hadn’t wanted the situation to gain attention and become a major issue. However, he acknowledges now that it was inevitable, and he wasn’t fully aware of this at the time. Yet, people have told him that seeing his representation found it helpful.”

“Ramsey wishes he could go back and keep things quiet, but he realized later it was destined to become a big deal, which he wasn’t ready for. Still, folks have shared with him that they appreciate having someone like him to relate to.

They went on saying, “To sum up, there have been ups and downs, but on the whole, I believe it was a positive experience for me, as it allowed me greater freedom and less secret-keeping. However, now I’m at a point where I want to discuss it openly, but not make it the center of attention anymore. In essence, I’ve grown quite comfortable with the situation, and I hope everyone else can be just as relaxed about it.

Right now, Ramsey is appearing in the second season of HBO’s “The Last of Us,” which began airing on April 13. This series is adapted from the popular PlayStation game with the same name, featuring Pedro Pascal, Gabriel Luna, Rutina Wesley, Isabela Merced, Kaitlyn Dever, and Young Mazino as its main cast members.
