The popular 2006 horror film, Behind the Mask: The Rise of Leslie Vernon, has been a fan favorite for years, and now, after much anticipation, a sequel is officially in the works.
A sequel to the horror film Behind the Mask: The Rise of Leslie Vernon is officially happening! It will be called Behind the Mask II: The Return of Leslie Vernon. Director Scott Glosserman and writer David J. Stieve are both returning for the sequel, and original stars Nathan Baesel and Angela Goethals will reprise their roles.
Leslie Is Finally Returning After 20 Years
Glosserman explained that people have been wondering for two decades if a sequel to the movie would ever be made. He emphasized that the original film never truly faded away, thanks to dedicated fans who continued to share, discuss, and recommend it over the years. He stated that this new movie is happening directly because of their continued support.
The director announced they’re starting a Kickstarter to help fund the next movie. While Behind the Mask II is definitely happening, regardless of the campaign’s success, fan contributions will allow them to make a more ambitious and expansive sequel – and give fans a chance to participate in bringing it to life.
Glosserman said the movie will be made regardless, but audience participation could lead to a larger, more elaborate production. This could include bigger action sequences, more celebrity appearances, and extra surprises. They’ve always envisioned this as a film created with fans in mind, and that hasn’t changed.
He shared that Aaron Koontz, Cam Burns, and everyone at Paper Street always believed there was more to Leslie’s story. He emphasized their years of support and dedication were crucial to making the sequel happen, and he couldn’t have imagined creating it with any other team. They’ve fostered a wonderful creative environment.
Leslie Vernon Rises Again in the New Sequel
Okay, so here’s the behind-the-scenes scoop: Thomas Koontz and John Burns are producing this project through their company, Paper Street Pictures. Plus, Adam F. Goldberg – you probably know him from The Goldbergs – is joining as an executive producer. It’s a solid team assembled, and I’m interested to see what they bring to the table.
The original movie is a funny and scary fake documentary. It centers around a journalist and her team who are filming a man trying to become a serial killer – he bases his style on famous movie villains. The film has become a beloved cult favorite with fans worldwide, and people are still eager for a sequel.
A release date hasn’t been announced for the next installment in the Behind the Mask series, but you can watch the first film, The Rise of Leslie Vernon, on AMC+ right now.
