As a movie enthusiast with a soft spot for animations and a knack for predicting box office successes, I must say, “The Wild Robot” has certainly caught my eye! With its impressive debut in key markets like China and Australia, it’s clear that this sci-fi survival story is resonating with audiences worldwide. Lupita Nyong’o’s voice acting as the isolated android Roz adds a touch of charm that could potentially make “The Wild Robot” a surprise box office force.
In eight different countries, “The Wild Robot,” a joint production between Universal and DreamWorks Animation, soared in the international box office, earning $6.85 million.
The highest-grossing markets were China, earning $4 million, followed closely by Australia with $1.9 million. The science fiction survival film titled “The Wild Robot,” featuring a robot stranded on an uninhabited island, is set to premiere in North America and various other international locations on September 27th. Given the positive reviews, it’s possible that “The Wild Robot” could be a hit at the box office. Lupita Nyong’o lends her voice to the main character, an isolated android known as ROZZUM unit 7134, who goes by Roz and learns to survive by forging bonds with other wildlife.
In a less-than-expected performance, the latest animated movie from Paramount and Hasbro titled “Transformers One,” generated only $14 million during its premiere in 50 foreign markets. Interestingly, this is barely twice the earnings of “The Wild Robot,” despite being shown in six times as many locations. The opening weekend saw the highest earnings for “Transformers One” in Mexico with $2.2 million, followed closely by Australia with $1.5 million, Japan with $820,000, and Panama with $625,000.
The movie featuring Chris Hemsworth, Brian Tyree Henry, and Scarlett Johansson as voice actors debuted in North America, earning $25 million, surpassing initial expectations and adding $39 million to its worldwide total. With a production cost of $75 million, it has started its run. Josh Cooley, the director of “Toy Story 4”, helmed “Transformers One”, an origin story that received positive reviews for its portrayal of the rival Autobots and Decepticons. Imax screens accounted for $3 million of global earnings, with strong performances in Japan, India, and the Middle East.
Neither of the recent arrivals managed to surpass “Beetlejuice Beetlejuice,” which remains the top-grossing film domestically, internationally, and globally for the third week in a row. The latest installment by Tim Burton has earned an additional $17.2 million from 76 international territories, boosting its foreign earnings to $103 million. “Beetlejuice Beetlejuice” has now surpassed the $300 million mark worldwide with a global total of $329.7 million in ticket sales. In a relatively quiet September at the box office, “Beetlejuice Beetlejuice” is the only standout success story.
