‘Beetlejuice Beetlejuice’ Continues U.K., Ireland Box Office Reign, ‘Joker’ Sequel on Horizon

As a cinephile who has traversed through the cinematic universe for years, I must say that the current state of the British box office is as captivating as a well-crafted screenplay. The consistent success of “Beetlejuice Beetlejuice” is truly a spectacle to behold, much like the titular character himself. It’s not every day you see a film maintaining its grip on the top spot for four consecutive weekends!

Over the past four weekends, I’ve been thrilled to see “Beetlejuice” hanging on tight as the top box office draw in the U.K. and Ireland! It raked in an impressive £1.8 million ($2.4 million) during its fourth weekend alone, bringing its total earnings up to a whopping £21 million ($27.9 million), according to Comscore’s latest figures.

Universal’s film “Speak No Evil” remained in the second position, earning £813,890, bringing its three-week accumulated earnings to approximately £4 million. Debuting at third place was “The Outrun,” from Studiocanal, with £449,590, while Dreamz Entertainment’s “Devara Part 1” followed closely behind with £440,626. Lastly, “The Substance,” distributed by Mubi, ended the top five in its second week with £421,242, increasing its overall total to £1.4 million.

In its third weekend, Studiocanal’s “Lee” earned £453,921 and a total of £2.7 million, placing it sixth. Meanwhile, “Megalopolis,” distributed by Entertainment Film Distributors, debuted in seventh place with £357,190. Universal’s “Despicable Me 4” held strong at eighth, accumulating an additional £351,007 in its twelfth weekend for a grand total of £47.4 million. The 20th-anniversary re-release of Universal’s “Shaun of the Dead” opened at ninth with £314,481. Lastly, Lionsgate U.K.’s “Never Let Go” rounded out the top 10 with a debut of £306,665.

In the future, Warner Bros. plans to distribute broadly the much-awaited movie “Joker: Folie à Deux,” featuring Joaquin Phoenix and Lady Gaga, on October 4. Meanwhile, Universal is premiering “A Different Man,” a film about an ambitious actor who undergoes a significant medical transformation. Sebastian Stan, its lead actor, was awarded the leading performance at the Berlinale this year.

MetFilm Distribution is presenting the Sundance-winning conservation documentary “The Battle For Laikipia,” while Bulldog Distribution is debuting the thriller “Die Before You Die.” Meanwhile, Tull Stories offers the Toronto-screened surfing documentary “Maya and the Wave,” and Dartmouth Films releases “Children of the Cult,” an exploration into the Rajneesh/Osho movement. Lastly, Lightbulb Film Distribution is launching the SXSW-premiered horror/sci-fi film “Things Will Be Different.

Two comedies are set to premiere, hailing from the southern regions of India. “Swag” in Telugu, produced by Dreamz Entertainment, stars Sree Vishnu, while Yash Raj Films presents “Thekku Vadakku” in Malayalam, featuring Vinayakan and Suraj Venjaramoodu.

Among other significant launches, there’s the documentary “Coldplay: Moon Music,” distributed by Abramorama on October 2nd, and the 50th anniversary edition of Mel Brooks’ iconic comedy “Young Frankenstein,” which was released by Park Circus on October 4th.
