As a child of the ’60s, I can barely contain my excitement about the upcoming documentary “Beatles ’64” by Martin Scorsese and David Tedeschi. Growing up during the height of Beatlemania, I remember the feverish anticipation that swept across America when The Fab Four landed on our shores. To finally see this never-before-seen footage of their arrival and the madness that ensued is like finding a long-lost treasure from my youth.
A forthcoming documentary, produced by Martin Scorsese and directed by David Tedeschi, will narrate The Beatles’ visit to the United States in 1964.
Entitled “Beatles ’64”, this upcoming film is set to premiere on Disney+ on November 29th. The movie showcases unprecedented, never-before-seen footage of the band and their adoring crowds during the peak of Beatlemania. Additionally, it features fresh interviews with the remaining two Beatles, Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr.
The documentary focuses on McCartney, John Lennon, George Harrison, and Starr during their arrival in New York City in February 1964, as they cemented their position as the world’s most prominent band. “Beatles ’64” aims to provide a more intimate, behind-the-scenes account of the Fab Four, particularly their groundbreaking performance on “The Ed Sullivan Show,” which was watched by over 73 million viewers and remains the most-watched television event in history at that time.
Footage from the documentary work of Albert and David Maysles, previously unseen, has been remastered in 4K quality at Park Road Post in New Zealand. This is part of the collection known as ‘Beatles ’64’.
Working together with Scorsese are Margaret Bodde, Paul McCartney, Ringo Starr, Olivia Harrison, Sean Ono Lennon, Jonathan Clyde, and Mikaela Beardsley. Jeff Jones and Rick Yorn serve as the project’s executive producers.
One week prior to the film’s premiere, on November 22nd, a vinyl collection called “The Beatles: 1964 U.S. Albums in Mono” will be released. This boxed set contains seven American Beatles albums that haven’t been available on vinyl since 1995. The collection includes popular titles such as “Meet The Beatles!”, “The Beatles’ Second Album”, “A Hard Day’s Night (Original Motion Picture Soundtrack)”, “Something New”, “The Beatles’ Story (2LP)”, “Beatles ’65” and “The Early Beatles”.
