BBC Teams With ZDF to Produce Premium Drama Series, Building on ‘Honey’ and ‘A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder’ Deals

Collaborating with the U.K.’s BBC and Germany’s ZDF, we are joining forces to create top-tier drama series.

Two shows have already been jointly commissioned by the broadcasters: first, “Honey,” a playful spy thriller produced by Sid Gentle Films Ltd., which was recently announced; second, the second season of “A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder,” a young adult mystery thriller co-produced with Netflix and created by Moonage Pictures.

The partnership aims to “leverage the strong points of two prominent European public service broadcasters, ZDF and BBC, by uniting ZDF’s expertise in pan-European co-productions with the BBC’s success in creating highly acclaimed and popular scripted series.” This way, production companies will benefit from an easier collaboration with two significant European broadcasters, as they can creatively align their projects from the very start.

Nadine Bilke, head of content at ZDF, expressed: “The BBC’s approach to programming aligns perfectly with our objectives. Their dedication to crafting content that resonates with viewers parallels our own purpose. Collaborating on productions like ‘A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder,’ which offers an engaging young adult narrative, and ‘Honey,’ a captivating special event program, broadens our appeal to the younger demographic and adds a European angle to our content.

Lindsay Salt, who is in charge of drama at the BBC, expressed: “The robust creative status that ZDF holds, along with our similar strategic approaches in content production, presents an enticing chance to enhance our programming even more. As public service broadcasters encounter growing economic difficulties, this alliance offers fresh paths for cooperation, allowing us to keep supporting outstanding storytelling from throughout the U.K., nurturing talent, and maintaining our creative ambition. With two dramas currently in progress, ‘Honey’ and ‘A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder,’ and more shows on the horizon, we eagerly anticipate expanding our collaboration with ZDF to deliver top-notch scripted television to BBC viewers.
