BBC Buys Thomas Vinterberg’s Climate Change TV Drama ‘Families Like Ours’

The British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) has obtained the first TV drama of Academy Award-winning director Thomas Vinterberg (“Another Round,” “The Hunt”) for broadcast in the United Kingdom.

Written by Vinterberg and Bo Hr. Hansen (of “Department Q: Journal 64” and “The Art of Crying”), this seven-part series, titled “Families Like Ours,” made its debut at the Venice Film Festival last year. It’s set in a future Denmark where the increasing floodwaters can no longer be denied, forcing the entire country to evacuate. As people scatter in various directions, they find themselves saying goodbye to their cherished belongings, familiar surroundings, and personal identities.

The film was filmed in a span of five different nations and features Amaryllis August, Albert Rudbeck Lindhardt, Nikolaj Lie Kaas, Paprika Steen, Helene Reingaard Neumann, Magnus Millang, Esben Smed, Thomas Bo Larsen, David Dencik, Asta Kamma August, and Max Kaysen Høyrup as the main cast.
