The upcoming Battlefield 6 is still a month away, yet a sneak peek of gameplay from a recent Battlefield Labs test suggests the comeback of an adored element from Battlefield 1 – the gradual accumulation of dirt and mud on weapons during gameplay.
On the Battlefield subreddit, a video shared by Ter-Lee-Comedy from a recent playtest in Battlefield Labs demonstrates that weapons will again acquire dirt, blood, and grime throughout a fight, just as they did in Battlefield 1 and its successor Battlefield V. However, this feature was absent in last year’s Battlefield 2042.
Like BF1 mud and dirt accumulate on our weapons again.

Alongside the video, Ter-Lee-Comedy additionally shared an image that contrasted the clean weapon depicted in the Battlefield 6 open beta with one that appeared grungy from a later gameplay session.
The distinction between them is quite noticeable, as the weapon appears to be heavily coated with mud. Although the buildup of dirt and mud on weapons serves no functional purpose in gameplay, many players find it an appealing aesthetic touch that adds a sense of realism to battles. However, it’s important to note that just because this feature is being tested doesn’t mean it will definitely be included in Battlefield 6 when it launches.
In our recent review, we noted that Battlefield 6 seems poised to be a follow-up to the much-loved Battlefield 3 and 4, given its improved destruction of buildings and environments – an aspect that players felt was missing in Battlefield 2042.
In other updates about Battlefield 6, snippets of the yet-to-be-revealed battle royale mode have surfaced online. Regarding the game’s visuals and smooth running, Battlefield Studios has disclosed the complete PC specifications required for optimal play. However, it was also confirmed that ray tracing won’t be an option in Battlefield 6, as the developers decided to focus more on performance instead.
Until Battlefield 6 launches on October 10th, enthusiasts have the chance to collect some cosmetic rewards related to Battlefield 6 by playing Battlefield 2042 instead. For those eagerly anticipating more of Battlefield 6, it’s also possible to register for the Battlefield Labs testing program, where participants have recently been involved in trying out larger maps and a server browser.
