Battlefield 2042 Secure Boot is still locking out regular players, and DICE hasn’t fixed it yet

It appears that an attempt to thwart cheating in Battlefield 2042, by introducing a Secure Boot requirement with their latest update, has inadvertently blocked some legitimate players as well. This was not the intended outcome, despite DICE currently focusing on Battlefield 6.

Battlefield 2042’s anti-cheat update is hurting the wrong players

With this update, Battlefield 2042 now shares the same approach as games such as Valorant, employing Secure Boot to strengthen their anti-cheat measures. EA decided to adopt this strategy following the widespread cheating incidents in Apex Legends back in March 2024, an incident that even affected professional players during a competition.

Currently, many frequent players of Battlefield 2042 find themselves unable to start the game due to perplexing BIOS settings or system compatibility issues. Surprisingly, the developers have yet to intervene and resolve this predicament, leaving the problem unsolved.

The upcoming game update is scheduled for tomorrow, specifically on Tuesday the 17th, however, the issue we’re experiencing isn’t listed among the bug fixes. It appears that this release will primarily focus on enhancing the Mass Effect package and adjusting various weapons, rather than addressing the concerns of players at present.

Currently, the majority of recent reviews for Battlefield 2042 on Steam are unfavorable. If issues aren’t addressed promptly, it seems likely that the player base will continue to diminish. The last significant increase in players was observed in October 2021, and since then, the numbers have been gradually declining.
