Batman Game Publisher Undergoes Major Shakeup

Warner Bros. Games is planning to streamline its structure by concentrating on four primary intellectual properties moving ahead: Harry Potter, Game of Thrones, Mortal Kombat, and the DC universe.

Yves Lachance, formerly the head of WB Games Montreal studio, has been promoted to Senior Vice President of Development, responsible for supervising studios working on Harry Potter and Game of Thrones video game projects. Meanwhile, Shaun Himmerick, who previously led NetherRealm studio, now holds the position of Senior Vice President for Development, overseeing all new Mortal Kombat and DC games.

As a gamer, I’m proudly stepping up to the Senior Vice President position for Central Tech and Services at WB Games New York. This new role empowers me to manage quality assurance, user research, game and publishing technology, and customer service – ensuring we deliver top-tier gaming experiences to our passionate community.

The three executives will be overseen by JB Perrette, head of Warner Bros. Discovery. According to a statement released by Perrette, these organizational adjustments are being made to establish strategic plans for the future development of franchises such as Harry Potter, Game of Thrones, Mortal Kombat, and DC properties.

It’s great to have a robust team of developers and tech specialists on board, and Yves, Shaun, and Steven are highly esteemed figures who boast impressive backgrounds in their respective fields. I’m eager to collaborate closely with them and the rest of the team as we strive to create outstanding games for our flagship series,” Perrette expressed.

As reported by Variety, no layoffs occurred, nor did any executives depart from the company following the recent management reorganization. Earlier this year, David Haddad, who previously led WB Games, parted ways with the company. It’s yet to be determined if the company is seeking a new replacement for him.

A few days ago, WB Discovery announced its decision to divide into two entities: WBD Streaming & Studios and WBD Global Networks. The gaming arm, WB Games, falls under the umbrella of the Streaming and Studios division, which is currently led by CEO David Zaslav.

Regarding future projects, it’s rumored that Rocksteady Studios is developing another standalone Batman game. WB Games Montreal is allegedly proposing a fresh Game of Thrones video game. Avalanche Software is believed to be planning a follow-up to Hogwarts Legacy.

The Mortal Kombat series will carry on being developed by NetherRealm Studios. Regarding other DC productions, James Gunn, the studio head, hinted at some intriguing projects in the pipeline, but they won’t be released anytime soon. Game of Thrones: Kingsroad debuted earlier this year, and a new real-time strategy (RTS) based on Game of Thrones is set for release in 2026.

A currently stalled project from the company is the recently announced Wonder Woman video game, which was estimated to have cost around $100 million in production costs prior to being canceled.
