Everyone’s hyped for Euphoria Season 3 and seeing Zendaya, Jacob Elordi, Hunter Schafer, and Sydney Sweeney back on screen, but it turns out Barbie Ferreira won’t be joining them this time around. And honestly, she’s got a solid reason for stepping away.
Okay, so the new season picks up a while after season two, and it’s pretty intense! Apparently, Rue is now working for this drug dealer, Laurie, to try and pay off a debt she owes her. It sounds like things are really complicated for her now.
Cassie and Nate are now getting married, while Maddy is pursuing a career in Hollywood. The series has moved beyond its high school roots, and it seems one of the actors has also matured and changed.
Barbie Ferreira isn’t in Euphoria Season 3, and part of it comes down to Kat’s story in Season 2.
Barbie Ferreira isn’t in Euphoria Season 3 because the character “wasn’t Kat anymore”

Barbie Ferreira recently told Collider that she chose not to return for the third season of Euphoria because her character, Kat, had changed significantly from her initial portrayal in season one.
As a fan, I always felt something was off with Season 2 – it just didn’t feel like the same Kat we all loved. Honestly, it seemed like the writers had run out of ideas, and everyone kind of knew the show was wrapping up. They could have kept going, I guess, but the spark just wasn’t there anymore.
Ferreira explained she wasn’t feeling challenged in the role and was eager to pursue different opportunities. She said she prioritized projects that allowed her to grow, even if they were smaller in scale. She chose to work on independent films with modest budgets, rather than focusing on bigger, more high-profile television shows.
I just wanted to be able to express myself more fully. I didn’t feel like I was truly showcasing what I’m capable of as an actress.
Rumors circulated that actress Alexa Demie (Kat) and the show’s creator, Sam Levinson, disagreed about the direction of her character’s storyline. Specifically, some sources claimed Levinson wanted Kat to develop an eating disorder, which Demie reportedly opposed.
They haven’t talked about whether the rumors are true. However, back in March 2025, she clarified a report claiming she stormed off set during an interview with The Viall Files. She stated, “That never happened. It was completely made up. I absolutely didn’t do that, and many people who were there every day can confirm.”
She described Kat’s departure from the show as a joint decision with the creator, Levinson, explaining that she didn’t want to risk damaging a successful character arc after dedicating so much time to developing her.
As we anticipate the third season of Euphoria and how it will change without Barbie Ferreira, here’s a preview of the TV shows we’re most excited about in 2026.
