Screenline Productions, in collaboration with Studiofact Stories, the teams behind Prime Video‘s popular French series “Cult” and Max’s first original French production “A Devoted Friend,” are joining forces to create another series titled “The Kiabi Scammer.” This new show is also inspired by real events.
This television show, jointly created with the French newspaper Le Parisien, is based on their explosive investigation from October, centered around the captivating tale of Aurélie B, a seemingly ordinary woman who fraudulently obtained over 100 million euros while serving as Kiabi’s financial director for more than a decade. The inquiry uncovered her manipulation of the company’s financial loopholes and she was apprehended by police in August. The case remains active at present.
The Amazon Prime Video series titled “Cult” was influenced by the genuine occurrences surrounding “Loft Story,” a French version of the popular reality TV show “Big Brother,” that debuted in 2001, marking the beginning of such reality shows in France.
A loyal companion,” crafted by StudioFact Stories and June Films, is a psychological thriller based on the novel “The Mythomaniac of the Bataclan,” and stars Laure Calamy (“Call My Agent!”). In this gripping tale, Calamy portrays a woman who deceived her way into a support group in the wake of the 2015 Bataclan concert hall tragedy. Swiftly rising to prominence within the organization, she became one of its key figures.
Alexia Laroche Joubert, director of Banijay France, and Frederic Lussato from Screen Line Productions, stated that the Aurélie B. case is an intriguing exploration of a grand fraud’s inner workings. To engage a broad audience with an appetite for true-to-life narratives, they plan to present this story through a nuanced character study and contemporary storytelling style. Screen Line previously made a significant impact in the fiction realm with ‘Cult’, and they aim to continue delivering high-quality, impactful, and immersive stories that align with market demands and Banijay’s aspirations in this field.
Jacques Aragones, Roxane Rouas-Rafowicz, and Ivan Sadik, who are the managers, founders, and managing director respectively of StudioFact Media group, stated that “Aurélie B.’s story aligns exceptionally well with StudioFact’s core essence: Sharing authentic narratives, encompassing both triumphs and tribulations, as truthfully as feasible.
