Banijay Group in Early Talks to Buy ITV (Report)

TV giant Banijay is the latest company to be linked to ITV, according to reports.

According to the Financial Times, the Banijay Group, a French company known for making acquisitions, has initiated preliminary discussions with the UK network regarding the potential purchase of their entire company or just their prized ITV Studios division.

ITV Studios, one of the world’s leading television production companies, is responsible for hit series like “Love Island,” “Fool Me Once,” “Rivals” (currently nominated for a BAFTA TV Award), and “Mr. Bates Vs the Post Office.” Banijay, on the other hand, is known for productions such as “Peaky Blinders.

As a film enthusiast, I’m keeping an eye on some exciting developments in the industry. Rumor has it that Banijay might be considering a complete takeover of ITV. If this happens, they’re planning to enlist the help of external investors to finalize the deal. However, it’s important to note that these discussions are still at their infant stages.

There’s been increasing chatter about the possible future of ITV Studios and potential buyers. Earlier this year, rumors surfaced that RedBird IMI, an investment group backed by Abu Dhabi with Jeff Zucker as CEO, had discussions with ITV regarding a merger between ITV Studios and All3Media, which Redbird acquired in 2024 for approximately $1.45 billion. If this deal were to go through (and there’s been no update since), it would result in one of Europe‘s largest production companies.
