Banijay France Combines Shine Fiction and Banijay Studios France to Create Scripted Powerhouse

Banijay France has merged Banijay Studios France and Shine Fiction into a single entity, now called Shine Fiction. This new company, headed by Dominique Farrugia as chairman and Guillaume Thouret as COO, will focus on producing high-quality series for both French television networks and international streaming platforms.

As a passionate cinephile, I’m thrilled to share that Shine Fiction, my go-to destination for captivating narratives, currently showcases some of France’s most exceptional dramas. One such masterpiece is “Marie Antoinette,” which has been sold to an impressive 140 markets worldwide through Banijay Rights and recently premiered its second series on Canal+.

Another noteworthy production is the Apple TV+ series, “Carême,” which made its grand entrance at Series Mania for its world premiere. In the pipeline, we have a comedy-crime series titled “The Family Detective” (TF1), a gripping thriller named “Rien ne t’efface” (TF1), and a mysterious coming-of-age drama entitled “Désenchantées” (France TV). These upcoming shows promise to keep us on the edge of our seats!

I’m fortunate to be part of the talented team at Shine Fiction, working alongside professionals like Chanelle Bernard, Stéphanie Chartreux, Carole Della Valle, and Soizic Gaolbird.

Alexia Laroche-Joubert, CEO of Banijay France, stated: “By strategically merging these two well-known labels under the Shine Fiction name, we aim to access a previously untapped level of creative and production skills for our scripted division in France. Enhancing and broadening our presence in scripted content is a key objective for us, and with Dominique and Guillaume leading the way, we are prepared to boldly provide top-notch storytelling to audiences not only in France but also globally.

Four years ago, when we started Shine Fiction, I aimed to generate and distribute bold series that would captivate a broad audience. Now, as we embark on a fresh chapter for our brand, we’re thrilled to introduce two popular French titles, ‘Carême’ and ‘Marie Antoinette,’ to the market. I’m eagerly anticipating this next exciting phase of our journey, with Guillaume by my side, to boost both the creative strength and influence of our label even further.

Among the forthcoming productions by Banijay France are “Alain Goldman’s ‘Asterix & Obelix: The Big Fight,'” produced by Montmartre Film, set to air on Netflix, as well as “Montmartre,” a joint venture between Authentic Productions and TF1, which is also under the Montmartre banner.

Banijay Entertainment’s productions encompass a variety of titles such as “House of Guinness” (Kudos/Netflix), “The World Explained by Lidea Poët” (Groenlandia/Netflix), “Elixe” (Topkapi/New 8), “Rogue Heroes” (Kudos/BBC One), “Fallen” (Filmlance/TV4), “Bergerac” (Blacklight TV for U and U& Drama), and “Culpa Tuya” (Pokeepsie/Prime Video). Notable premieres and debuts at Series Mania include the world premiere of “Carême,” as well as the eagerly awaited festival unveilings of “A Life’s Value” (Yellowbird/Jarowskij/Viaplay/Arte) and “Weiss & Morales”(Portocabo/ RTVE/ ZDF).
