‘Ballerina’ Trailer: Ana de Armas Has Killer Showdown With Keanu Reeves’ John Wick in Gory Spinoff

In just a few months, the “John Wick” series will return to theaters, featuring Ana de Armas as the main character, who was previously nominated for an Oscar.

In the latest sneak peek of “Ballerina,” Ana de Armas is portrayed as Eve Macarro, a former Russian ballerina transformed into an assassin seeking retribution for her slain kin. However, de Armas isn’t operating solo; the charismatic Keanu Reeves reappears in his highly anticipated role as John Wick.

The movie titled “Ballerina” is set between “John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum” and “John Wick: Chapter 4.” This film explores the assassin character, previously portrayed by Unity Phelan, from a fresh perspective with de Armas’ performance. It has been two years since fans last saw Keanu Reeves in the fourth installment, which was the highest-earning film in the series, amassing over $440 million globally. In total, the first four “John Wick” movies have made over $1 billion worldwide.

In the newest addition to the “John Wick” franchise, Ana de Armas showcases her action hero skills once more, building on her previous roles alongside Daniel Craig in “No Time to Die” and Chris Evans in “Ghosted”. In 2023, she earned her first Oscar nomination for her powerful portrayal of Marilyn Monroe in the film “Blonde”, directed by Andrew Dominik.

It’s not a new occurrence that “John Wick” has delved into spinoffs; a prequel miniseries named “The Continental,” featuring Mel Gibson, was already launched on Peacock as far back as September 2023.

The film titled “Ballerina” is helmed by Len Wiseman, known for his work on “Underworld,” and penned by Shay Hatten, a writer from “Army of the Dead.” Kaley Smalley Romo serves as an executive producer alongside Basil Iwanyk, Erica Lee, and Chad Stahelski. The latter group has also produced the initial four films in the “John Wick” series.

“Ballerina” releases in theaters June 6 from Lionsgate. Watch the new trailer below.
