Bad Bunny’s Hidden Talent Could Have Saved Sony’s Cancelled Spider-Man Spinoff

In the year 2022, Bad Bunny made an appearance in the movie “Bullet Train,” leaving studio executives suitably impressed. Subsequently, they began seeking a suitable role for the now-actor to take the lead. They ultimately decided on casting him as the anti-hero in the Spider-Man series.

Bad Bunny unveiled his role in a Sony movie project, expected to be released on January 12, 2024, during their CinemaCon event in April 2022. Unfortunately, complications like Bad Bunny’s busy tour schedule and the 2023 Writers’ Guild of America strike caused delays in production. Despite some fans accepting Sony’s decision to shelve another Spider-Man villain adaptation such as Morbius and Kraven the Hunter, there is a possibility that they may have missed an exciting spinoff featuring Bad Bunny.

Bad Bunny Shines on SNL Once Again

It Wasn’t A Phase, Bad Bunny is Certified Comedy Gold

It’s unfortunate as this could have been among the highlights for Sony in their lineup of films within the shared Spider-Man universe. Last weekend, Bad Bunny showcased his impressive comedic skills once more, appearing in several skits on Saturday Night Live.

As a movie buff, I recently found myself captivated by “Couples at the Bar,” a film that stars Bad Bunny and Marcello Hernandez as on-screen lovers. In this intriguing tale, they portray boyfriends who, being somewhat cowed by their fiery significant others, engage in clandestine conversations about them in Spanish. The women in question are undeniably “locas” – a term that aptly describes their passionate, unpredictable nature. This delightful cinematic exploration of relationships and the challenges they present offers an engaging glimpse into the complexities of love and communication.

Right off the bat, when Bad Bunny made his appearance on the SNL stage, he was met with thunderous applause from the crowd. This is typical of SNL, but it also shows the faith the audience has in him to bring the humor. After all, he’s no stranger to scoring big laughs on that very stage.

Previously within the same show, Bad Bunny made a surprising appearance during a “Please Don’t Destroy” segment, where he amusingly deviated from his typical role. Rather than simply contributing to the comedy tune by singing as anticipated, Bad Bunny also took on the character of an inexperienced air traffic controller on his first day who miraculously saves the situation. He undoubtedly steals the show, maintaining the trend of Bad Bunny’s exceptional performances dating back to 2023.

Bad Bunny Might Have Been Just What These Movies Needed

He’s Just as Charismatic as Tom Hardy and Just as Funny as Shrek

In a more lighthearted take, the narratives involving Madame Web seemed rather grim and lacked humor. The predominant emphasis on villains and anti-heroes made it challenging to find enjoyable elements within these stories. Additionally, it’s worth noting that Spider-Man himself was rarely present in these tales.

Bad Bunny possesses a charm comparable to Tom Hardy, and what’s more, he has demonstrated his comedic skills on various occasions. Unfortunately, the Sony Spider-Man-less Spider-Man Villain Universe (may it rest in peace) missed out on the essential humor that superhero films typically need.

It seems as though Bad Bunny could have provided an ideal fit for Sony’s films. Sadly, viewers will never get to witness this collaboration since El Muerto has been scrapped. Fingers crossed that he’ll grace the silver screen again in another venture in the future!
