Backyard Baseball '97 Remaster Revealed, Arriving In October On PC

As a child of the 90s, I couldn’t be more thrilled about the return of Backyard Baseball ’97! This game was an integral part of my childhood, filling countless hours with friendly competition and laughter among friends. The thought that it might never see the light of day again after all these years had me feeling a bit like one of its stranded characters on a deserted island.

27 years after I first fell in love with it, I’ll get another chance to play Backyard Baseball ’97! On October 10, Playground Productions is bringing back this classic from the original Backyard Sports series, and it’s coming to Steam for just $10. Can’t wait to step up to the plate again!

It seems that bringing back Backyard Baseball ’97 wasn’t a straightforward process. According to Playground, the original source code was misplaced over the years following its 1997 release. Consequently, the company collaborated with Mega Cat Studios to remaster this classic sports game. This partnership involved dedicated Backyard Sports enthusiasts who managed to modify the original CD-ROM and create updated game versions. The developer behind this project has a history of working on games such as WrestleQuest and Five Nights at Freddy’s: Into the Pit.

Speaking about her childhood memories, Lindsay Barnett, founder and CEO of Playground, shared, “Backyard Baseball ’97 was my most cherished game. As we’re diligently working towards the future of Backyard Sports, we aim to pay tribute to our roots by restoring the games that sparked it all for me and countless others. We will start with Backyard Baseball ’97.

Previously, Playground made known that Backyard Sports had returned, yet left specifics undisclosed. However, it is now evident that the foundation for everything lies with Backyard Baseball ’97. The company intends to collaborate with Mega Cat to broaden this franchise across various platforms.

As an enthusiast, I can’t help but reminisce about the nostalgic days when the Backyard Sports franchise first graced our screens back in 1997, starting with Backyard Baseball. Over time, it expanded to include captivating games such as Backyard Soccer, Backyard Basketball, and Backyard Football. The Kelce brothers, like many of us, have cherished these games and expressed a desire to rejuvenate them. It seemed that the series had reached its end in 2015, but the thrilling news of a relaunch by Playground has brought new life to our shared memories!

Backyard Baseball ’97 is now available to wishlist on Steam.
