‘Bachelorette’ Winner Devin Strader Faced Past Arrest and Restraining Order From Ex-Girlfriend

As a longtime fan of “The Bachelorette,” I must admit that this latest development has left me quite bewildered and disheartened. The revelation about Devin Strader‘s past, including his arrest for burglary and allegations of abusive behavior, is truly alarming. It’s a stark reminder that reality TV doesn’t always reflect the realities of people’s lives.

Seven years prior to his victory on the latest season of “The Bachelorette”, where he won and had a brief engagement with the main contestant Jenn Tran, Devin Strader was previously arrested.

RealitySteve, known for covering Bachelor Nation updates, shared an affidavit that appears to be from Strader’s arrest warrant regarding a felony charge of “burglary of an inhabited dwelling.” This document, submitted anonymously by a former girlfriend on March 19, 2017 and accompanying the published warrant, claims that while she was away, her house was broken into and a diamond necklace that Strader had given her was taken. EbMaster has independently confirmed the authenticity of this affidavit.

Additionally, she claimed that Strader had visited her home on several occasions, pounding on the door angrily and shouting. The affidavit states that on March 22, 2017, she obtained a restraining order. It was further stated in the affidavit that “[Strader] ignited a fire in the street, seemingly with the actual restraining order. Furthermore, there was a tire deflated in her car, and when it was being replaced, [Strader] emerged from somewhere and began laughing at her.

Strader did not immediately respond to requests for comment.

Although the burglary arrest records were accessible to the public, the details of the restraining order remained sealed. However, Entertainment Weekly has recently disclosed this order, where Strader’s ex-girlfriend alleges incidents such as spitting on her and throwing his drink at a Pelicans game in front of everyone present, along with putting her in a chokehold and covering her mouth.

After being apprehended for burglary allegations, as reported by Entertainment Weekly, Strader admitted his guilt in relation to charges of unlawful entry and minor destruction of property valued under $500. Consequently, he was given a year of unmonitored probation.

Regarding the show’s selection procedure, neither ABC nor Warner Bros., the production company responsible, chose to provide comments. Nevertheless, a reliable source from the production team shared with EbMaster that they prioritize the safety of their contestants and strive for comprehensive background checks. Despite their extensive vetting process, the protective order in question did not come up during their investigations.

Over time, the practice of conducting background checks on reality TV contestants has raised more concerns; for instance, during Becca Kufrin’s 2018 season of “The Bachelorette,” a participant named Lincoln Adim was found to have been arrested for indecent assault and battery two years earlier. At that point, Warner Bros. claimed they had no knowledge of any such incident or charges.

On the September 3rd finale of “The Bachelorette,” Tran proposed to Strader. However, in the after-show, he admitted that he ended things with her shortly afterward because his feelings had shifted. Later, he attempted to explain himself through a 13-minute Instagram video, showing messages between them (which have since been removed).

Tran will make her debut on Tuesday night’s premiere of “Dancing With the Stars.”
