Grimoires can be thought of as magical handbooks, granting players the ability to learn and use fresh spells when they have the book in their possession. This also lowers the amount of energy or resources needed to perform these spells.

This item is crucial when you’re intending to play a full-fledged Wizard character, and it’s quite beneficial if you’re aiming for a versatile, spellblade-type build.

In the game Avowed, while numerous upgradeable elemental Grimoires are available, it’s the Unique ones that truly stand out. These have exclusive spell combinations not found elsewhere, although it’s worth noting that some are notably more powerful than others.

For instance, if I’m aiming to master a Grimoire brimming with Frost Skills, I should focus on pumping up the Secrets of Rime skill node. Similarly, if I’m interested in Fire spells, investing in the Scion of Flame would be my choice.

S-Tier Unique Grimoires in Avowed

Eilara’s Grimoire

Location: Head to the Living Archives in Galawain’s Tusks and look for the prayer room with the altar. To the right of the altar is a chest containing the grimoire, with some other items of value.
Spells: Spirit Lance, Pull of Eora, Freezing Pillar, Meteor Shower

In the latter stages of the game, Eilara’s Grimoire stands out as the finest spellbook in Avowed. Among its arsenal, Meteor Shower is an area-of-effect (AoE) spell with immense power, and when paired with Pull of Eora, it can immobilize enemies before annihilating them. Additionally, Freezing Pillar and Spirit Lance are equally potent spells, making the entire collection highly attractive.

In Avowed, towards the end of the story, Eilara’s Grimoire becomes apparent as the best spellbook. The Meteor Shower is a powerful AoE spell that can be combined with Pull of Eora to trap enemies and destroy them. Furthermore, Freezing Pillar and Spirit Lance are also strong spells, making the entire set very appealing.

A-Tier Unique Grimoires in Avowed

Anextli’s Grimoire

Location: Just North of Ivona’s Threshold in Dawnshore, there is a small copse of trees. There, you will find an old camp with a skeleton corpse that can be looted to attain the grimoire.
Spells: Fan of Flames, Arcane Veil, Grimoire Snap, Missile Salvo

At Dawnshore’s initial area, don’t miss out on grabbing Anextli’s Grimoire. It might be a bit of a detour, but it’s definitely worth the effort. While Fan of Flames can be tricky to use as it exposes you to enemy attacks, Arcane Veil is an effective defensive charm to counter this. The Grimoire’s snap ability offers the strongest crowd control option at Level 5, and once you reach Level 10, Missile Salvo makes for a reliable upgrade.

Aurochs-Skin Grimoire

Location: During the main story quest, Face Your Fears, you will come to meet Ryngrim in Shatterscarp. In the room where you do, there is a secret doorway behind the bookshelf, with a hidden switch on the bookshelf itself. Once inside, the grimoire is on the table.
Spells: Blast of Frost, Missile Salvo, Freezing Pillar, Arcane Seal

The Aurochs-Skin Grimoire is a fantastic option for mid-game play, as many of its abilities become accessible at Level 10. The spells Blast of Frost and Missile Salvo are powerful, allowing you to build up momentum for Freezing Pillar starting at Level 15. Furthermore, Arcane Seal proves to be an effective method for replenishing Essence, especially as you reach Level 20 and utilize it frequently.

B-Tier Unique Grimoires in Avowed

Beothel’s Grimoire

Location: Purchased from Merilyn in the Market District of Paradis in Dawnshore.
Spells: Corrosive Siphon, Arcane Veil, Parasitic Staff, Blizzard

Beothul’s Grimoire stands out among the other spellbooks in this collection due to its unique structure, but it remains appealing nonetheless. Once more, we find the defensive mainstay Arcane Veil, accompanied by a robust Area of Effect spell, Blizzard. However, what truly sets this grimoire apart are two intriguing additions: Corrosive Siphon, which causes Poison accumulation, and Parasitic Staff, which restores Essence with each strike. If you’re focusing on a Poison-centric Wizard build, consider placing this grimoire in the A-tier category.

Od Caura’s Grimoire

Location: South of The Delemgan Glade is the Pargrun Cache. The grimoire is in a chest in the barred room. To get in, head round to the side and look for the broken wall, then use a ranged weapon to attack the opening mechanism.
Spells: Chill Blades, Ring of Fire, Returning Storm, Pull of Eora

From a quick look, Od Caura’s Grimoire seems to be a potent mix of spells from four distinct elemental schools. However, upon closer inspection, none of the spells offered here are top-tier and it seems that your energy would be better utilized elsewhere. If you enjoy blending various elements together, then this grimoire can certainly offer some fun experiences, but there are more efficient alternatives available.

C-Tier Unique Grimoires in Avowed

Vesrik’s Grimoire

Location: As the name suggests, Vesrik’s Grimoire can be found on the body of the deceased Ranger Vesrik. Head to the cave at Wavesculpt Hollow in the Emerald Stair, freeze the water and make your way through the linear route until you see him.
Spells: Parasitic Staff, Arcane Veil, Bristling Frost, Ring of Fire

This C-Tier Grimoire contains several spells found in higher-ranked books, along with two unusual choices that might not provide maximum power. While Bristling Frost and Ring of Fire can be enjoyable, the spellbooks you’ve looked at previously offer more effective offensive options right away.
