In the game “Avowed“, Essence acts as a vital Resource that powers your Abilities and Spells. This meter is displayed beneath your Health Bar in a purple hue. You can regain some Essence by strolling over the floating purple orb on top of slain enemies’ corpses, but there are more efficient methods to replenish it quickly or minimize usage.
In this tutorial, you’ll learn how to recharge Essence within the game ‘Avowed’. You’ll find advice on acquiring and utilizing Essence Elixirs from the very beginning of the game, discover the optimal beverages and meals for boosting Essence, and get suggestions for Abilities that can replenish Essence. This guide also covers methods to amplify your Max Essence in ‘Avowed’, offering both short-term and long-term enhancement strategies.
How To Use Essence Potions
In the game, the main way to rejuvenate Essence is through Essence Potions, which are provided to experienced players right at the beginning. Unlike other games where you might need to upgrade potions to restore more Essence as you progress, in this game, each time an Essence Potion is used, experienced players will always restore 70% of their maximum Essence.
You’ll find Essence Potions at Apothecaries, some common vendors across the world, and even when you’re out exploring. Be on the lookout for a radiant purple bottle during your adventures, particularly within breakable containers.
To drink an Essence Potion, PC gamers can easily press the X key, which can be reassigned if preferred, perhaps to a side button on a gaming mouse for quicker access. Console players or those using an Xbox controller on PC should first open the radial menu with the left bumper (LB), then pick the Essence Potion from the menu and consume it.
Prepared Food & Drinks Can Restore Essence
Once you acquire the skill to prepare meals at your campsite, you might find certain dishes marked with a violet symbol. These campfire-prepared dishes replenish your Essence upon consumption, though at a more gradual pace compared to drinking an Essence Elixir.
Consuming an item that replenishes Essence means you’ll refill it rapidly when not engaged in battle, but extremely gradually during combat. This is similar to the way Health Food restores your health points. Also, the amount of Essence restored from food remains constant rather than being a proportion of your maximum Essence level.
Certain components can offer a slight boost to vitality in a hurry, yet it’s generally more beneficial to transform them into Ready-to-Eat or Ready-to-Drink items. Here are some excellent Foods and Beverages that enhance vitality:
1. Fresh fruits such as apples, bananas, oranges, and berries.
2. Leafy green vegetables like spinach, kale, and lettuce.
3. Nuts and seeds, such as almonds, walnuts, flaxseeds, and pumpkin seeds.
4. Whole grains like oats, brown rice, and quinoa.
5. Lean proteins from sources like chicken, fish, eggs, and tofu.
6. Colorful spices and herbs like turmeric, ginger, basil, and mint.
7. Freshly squeezed juices or smoothies made with these ingredients.
8. Homemade soups, stews, and salads featuring a variety of these components.
- Mariner’s Porridge, which requires 1x Cooked animal product and 1x Vegetable or Produce item.
- Restores 70 Health and Essence
- Arrack, a Drink that requires 1x Fruit and 1x Vegetable.
- Restores 100 Essence
- All’s-Leaf-Tea, which requires 1x Mushroom, 1x Fruit, and 1x Vegetable.
- Restores 150 Essence and grants +20% Max Essence
- Stew, which requires 1x any Cooked or Raw meat, 1x any Vegetable, and 1x any meat, fish, or other animal product
- Restores 50 Health and 50 Essence
Abilities That Restore Essence
In the game “Avowed“, Essence can be replenished both directly and indirectly using specific skills. The Ability Tree of the Wizard Class offers the most methods for restoring or conserving Essence, but due to the ease of multiclassing in “Avowed“, classes like Rangers and Fighters who find it hard to gather more Essence can effortlessly branch into the Wizard tree without encountering many problems.
If you frequently find yourself running low on Essence, some Restoration abilities you might want to specialize in include:
1. Essence Font – This ability allows you to channel the essence of your spirit into a pool of energy that periodically heals nearby allies over time.
2. Renew – This spell instantly restores health to a single target, and also has a chance to generate Essence for you when used.
3. Circle of Healing – A powerful area-of-effect heal that not only restores health but also generates Essence for you when cast on allies within range.
4. Tranquility – This channeled spell heals all nearby allies, while also generating a significant amount of Essence for you over its duration.
- Parasitic Strike (Wizard): Restores Essence to the wielder of the summoned Staff every time they hit with it
- Harvest Essence (Wizard): Essence drops restore 2x/3x/4x Essence than normal after killing enemies
- Blood Magic (Wizard): After running out of Essence, you can still cast spells using Health as a resource
- Arcane Seal (Wizard): Conjures a circle that restores Essence if you stand within the AoE
- Grimoire Mastery (Wizard): Significantly reduces the cost of Grimoire spells with each Rank
- Built to Destroy (Fighter): Passive ability that restores Health and Essence when you break objects
Unfortunately, there are no Companion abilities that increase or restore Essence in Avowed.
How To Increase Max Essence in Avowed
In the game called “Avowed“, enhancing your Max Essence can be achieved through several methods, and one of the most straightforward approaches is to amplify your Intellect attribute. Each point you add to this stat gives a bonus of +5 Maximum Essence and an increase of 6% to all Elemental Resistances. Interestingly, the Court Augur Background initially provides a 3 in Intelligence, thereby boosting your Max Essence by 15%.
When it comes to Max Essence, armor also plays a role. Heavier armors like the ones you’d find in Heavy Armor category can reduce your maximum Essence and Stamina. If you’re a Wizard wearing heavy armor, consider switching to something lighter for more Essence to cast spells effectively. The Armored Essence (Wizard) Perk helps lessen the Essence Penalty when using Light and Medium armors even further.
The Godlike Ability of Enhekala, called “Remembrance,” automatically boosts your Essence by 10% when active. However, keep in mind that, just like any other Godlike ability, it can’t be acquired until you progress through a particular point in the story.
Boosting your Max Essence is possible by consuming specific foods and beverages, but their effects are only temporary. Leaf Tea can temporarily raise your Max Essence by 20%, while Fine Aedyran Mead requires one unit of Honey and one unit of Rotten Food to provide a 10% increase in Max Essence, as well as enhancing your Perception by 2 points.
These enhancements don’t persist for a considerable time, but they can significantly alter the outcome and provide you with enough Essence to perform even more of your strongest spells. Moreover, since Essence Potions amplify according to your Max Essence, you’ll be able to replenish more Essence than usual while these effects are active.
