This December, Marvel Studios is poised to release what many believe will be the biggest superhero movie of all time, Avengers: Doomsday. The film will feature a return appearance by Robert Downey Jr. as Victor Von Doom, and boasts the largest cast in any Marvel movie to date. Following the massive success of Avengers: Endgame – which has competed with Avatar for the title of highest-grossing film ever – this sequel has a lot to live up to.
At CinemaCon 2026, Marvel announced that Endgame will return to theaters on September 25th, just before the release of Doomsday later in the year. This re-release will feature a new viewing format called Infinity Vision, created by Disney, and will include previously unseen footage and scenes filmed specifically for this occasion. These additions are designed to connect Endgame to future Marvel films and will have a significant impact on the storyline moving forward. While the details of the new content remain a secret, Marvel has confirmed its importance to everything that follows.
During a recent interview with Deadline at the Sands Film Festival in Scotland, Avengers: Doomsday director Joe Russo discussed the upcoming re-release of Avengers: Endgame. He emphasized how important it is to bring the film back to audiences, explaining that the new footage will connect to the events of Doomsday. This will allow the filmmakers to create a link between the two movies, positioning Endgame as an essential companion piece and a lead-in to Doomsday, which comes out in December.
We’re planning to re-release the movie, and this time it will include scenes connecting it to the ‘Doomsday’ story within the ‘Avengers: Endgame’ universe. Because the original film did so well, we have a chance to build a unique link between these two storylines. Re-releasing a movie isn’t always possible due to the costs involved, but this allows us to expand on the ‘Doomsday’ story with characters fans already love and continue their adventures in a special way – it’s a really exciting opportunity.
