Avengers Directors Are Open To Doomsday And Secret Wars Video Games

As a gaming enthusiast, I can’t help but get excited about the upcoming release of “The Electric State” by Joe and Anthony Russo, the genius minds behind Avengers: Endgame. This intriguing project is set to premiere on Netflix on March 14, accompanied by an enticing prequel video game!

With the duo also working on Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars, they’ve hinted at a potential interest in creating games for these upcoming films. However, their current focus lies elsewhere as they tackle other commitments.

What really piques my curiosity is the recent collaboration between these talented directors and Fortnite creator Donald Mustard at their media company AGBO. This partnership, they say, will open up opportunities to weave captivating narratives across various multimedia platforms. I can hardly wait to see what they’ll come up with next!

Joe Russo expressed that they are absolutely receptive to the idea. Currently, their focus is on developing unique intellectual properties (IP) at AGBO. They aim to share uncharted tales with original characters and settings that audiences haven’t encountered before. In collaboration with Anthony and Donald, they are in the process of constructing new worlds. Their goal is for each world they create to possess the magnitude and intricacy of a “Star Wars” universe, but within different genres. Once these new worlds are established, they plan to develop content around them, telling stories in various ways using diverse media within those universes.

Although the Avengers characters have been featured in numerous video games over time, Square Enix’s latest high-profile release, Marvel’s Avengers, didn’t quite meet the expectations they had for the franchise. Released in September 2020, the game struggled to maintain player interest due to its lackluster content and heavy emphasis on microtransactions. By late 2023, support for the game was discontinued, and it was taken off digital shelves that same year.

Although Marvel’s Avengers didn’t meet expectations, other Marvel games have had positive responses. For instance, the two Spider-Man games by Insomniac have been widely appreciated, and Eidos Montreal received critical acclaim, albeit with moderate sales, for their Guardians of the Galaxy game. Furthermore, NetEase launched Marvel Rivals in late 2024, a free-to-play live-service game that has been a hit since its debut. Lastly, Insomniac’s upcoming project will feature everyone’s favorite X-Man, Wolverine.

Regarding the other side, DC Comics – a rival to Marvel – hasn’t had much success in the video game industry. The release of Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League was a significant disappointment for the company, and last month saw the cancellation of the Wonder Woman game along with the closure of developer Monolith Productions. However, there are whispers that Warner Bros., DC’s parent company, has a plan to revitalize its video game division. It’s been suggested that Rocksteady Studios is currently working on a fresh Batman Arkham title as part of this renewal effort.
