Let me tell you, imagining how they made the Avatar movies is mind-boggling. The actors weren’t just saying lines – they were acting in motion-capture suits, completely immersed in the world of Pandora. Young Jack Champion, for example, had to film scenes both normally and using performance capture. But even with all that technical stuff, it sounds like the set was still a lot of fun! Apparently, the kid actors started a swear jar. That’s already hilarious, but the prices they set for dropping F-bombs? That’s what really got me laughing!
While the upcoming 2025 film Avatar: Fire and Ash is expected to be rated PG-13, actress Trinity Bliss shared with The Hollywood Reporter that the language used on set was quite strong. She recounted a humorous story about how she and Jack Champion, who play siblings Tuk and Spider in the film, started a swear jar while filming, collecting money each time someone used a curse word.
Looking back, it’s amusing to think about everything that happened. Jack and I ended up contributing to a swear jar we started on set – it’s a little embarrassing to curse around everyone now, considering we were the ones who created it! We did donate the money to a pet shelter, which was nice, but it wasn’t a regular thing.
It was all in good fun, and for a great cause! I’m curious to know how much money they raised. It’s funny to me that kids are turning the tables on their parents with swear jars – the same ones parents use to discourage bad language. It just goes to show that using profanity can have real consequences, especially when kids are around.
You’ve probably heard of putting money in a jar for swearing. On the set of ‘Avatar: The Way of Water,’ actress Trinity Bliss shared that James Cameron and Sam Worthington paid quite a bit for using curse words. She explained exactly how much each instance of swearing cost them, and the amount is surprisingly high!
On set, we had a playful system for swearing. We didn’t demand money, but jokingly ‘fined’ each other: using an F-bomb cost $5, ‘shit’ was $1, and ‘ass’ was just a penny. I don’t remember exactly how Jack and I came up with those prices, but our co-star, Sam, eventually joked that he should start each day owing $40 so he’d be guaranteed to swear enough to cover it. Later, when I auditioned for a role with a lot of cursing, Jim teased me that our time on set had really prepared me for it.
Those rations cost a fortune, honestly. It’s a good lesson for me to watch my language, though. I appreciate that Worthington was upfront about how much he’s willing to spend to avoid swearing in the future. And I think Cameron would be pleased to know his colorful language actually helped young Trinity Bliss ace her next audition – she picked up those words from him, after all.
The younger cast members of the Avatar films probably racked up a lot of money in their swear jar, but they also handled some tough challenges during filming. According to Bliss, the fact that The Way of Water and Fire and Ash were filmed at the same time created problems, as the child actors were growing quickly over the three years of production. They also had to perform difficult stunts, like resisting strong winds created by large fans.

Sigourney Weaver playfully remarked that after working with the young actors for so long, she’d eventually be looking up to them instead of down – especially Jack Champion. Having witnessed the difficult filming process firsthand, I admire their dedication and success in overcoming those challenges, too.
Despite everything else, I really enjoyed the humor on the Fire and Ash set, especially how the younger cast members playfully kept the adults in check with the swear jar. If the cast does get back together for the last two movies, I wouldn’t be shocked if Trinity Bliss and Jack Champion end up swearing more now that they’re older and have to contribute to the jar!
See Avatar: Fire and Ash in theaters now! You can also stream the first two Avatar movies with a Disney+ subscription.
