Avatar: The Last Airbender Joins Magic: The Gathering This November

This year at MagicCon Las Vegas, Wizards Of The Coast announced that three collaboration sets from “Universes Beyond” would be joining Magic: The Gathering in 2025, including Final Fantasy, Spider-Man, and one set yet to be identified. Today, during a panel at MagicCon Chicago, the company unveiled the identity of that secret set: it will feature Avatar: The Last Airbender.

A short trailer offered a sneak peek of the characters and visual style expected in the upcoming set, but no specific cards were revealed during the presentation. The Avatar expansion drops on November 21st, with Final Fantasy scheduled for June, and Spider-Man’s release date yet to be announced.

The complete MTG 2025 schedule encompasses three sets within the game’s universe: Aetherdrift, debuted on February 14, Tarkir: Dragonstorm, set for launch on April 11, and Edge Of Eternities, scheduled for August 1. During the MagicCon Chicago panel preview, numerous cards were revealed for Tarkir: Dragonstorm, such as Mox Jasper – the lead card in this set and the first “mox” card in Magic since Mox Opal and Chrome Mox in 2020. Some of these cards can be found below.

2021 marked the start of the “Universes Beyond” project, where five collectible cards based on The Walking Dead were made available through a special drop in Magic: The Gathering’s limited-release program, Secret Lair. Since then, popular franchises such as Fortnite, Street Fighter, Tomb Raider, Hatsune Miku, among others, have also had their limited releases via Secret Lair. Notably, The Lord of the Rings, Fallout, and Doctor Who have received themed retail releases as well.
