Nickelodeon is expanding the universe of “Avatar: The Last Airbender” by giving the go-ahead for an animated series titled “Avatar: Seven Sanctuaries.
The upcoming 2D animated show is planned for a total of 26 half-hour episodes, divided into two seasons, reminiscent of the “Avatar” format. This announcement follows close to the 20th anniversary of “Last Airbender”, which first aired on February 21, 2005.
The series titled ‘Seven Havens’ is being developed by Michael DiMartino and Bryan Konietzko, renowned for their work on ‘Avatar’. This project falls under the Avatar Studios label, which is part of Nickelodeon Animation based in Burbank. At present, production on this show is ongoing.”
This version maintains the original information but uses simpler and more conversational language to make it easier for readers to understand.
According to the given synopsis, this series takes place in a world that has been torn apart by a catastrophic event. A young Earthbender learns she is the new Avatar following Korra, but rather than being seen as a savior for humanity, her title puts her at risk of being hunted down by both human and spirit adversaries. Along with her estranged twin sibling, she embarks on a journey to reveal their enigmatic past and safeguard the Seven Havens before they are completely destroyed, leaving only civilization’s remaining fortresses standing.
Initially, when we developed the initial series, it wasn’t foreseen that we’d continue expanding its world for so many decades,” expressed DiMartino and Konietzko. “However, this fresh interpretation of the Avatarverse is brimming with fantasy, enigma, and a captivating array of new characters. Brace yourselves for another thrilling and emotionally engaging journey!
DiMartino and Bryan Konietzko serve as co-creators and top executives for “Avatar: Seven Havens,” while Ethan Spaulding holds the executive producer position, and Sehaj Sethi works alongside as a co-executive producer.
For over two decades, the intricately designed universe of ‘Avatar: The Last Airbender’ has captivated audiences worldwide with its captivating characters and innovative storylines, created by Michael DiMartino and Bryan Konietzko,” stated Ramsey Naito, head of Paramount Animation and Nickelodeon Animation. “We are thrilled to start the next phase of this epic journey, as we delve into a fresh tale set within the Avatarverse, inspired by its original creators.
For the third time, an animated “Avatar” series is coming up. Before this, Nickelodeon had broadcasted “Avatar: The Legend of Korra” for four seasons from 2012 to 2014, following “The Last Airbender”. In January 2026, a theatrical animated film centered around Aang and characters from “Last Airbender” is set to release. This movie features the voices of Dave Bautista, Dionne Quan, Jessica Matten, Román Zaragoza, and Eric Nam.
In this version, I’ve aimed to maintain the original meaning while making it more accessible and natural in terms of grammar and sentence structure.
In the year 2024, Netflix premiered a live-action version of “The Last Airbender.” However, DiMartino and Konietzko had left the project well before its release, as they had disagreements regarding creative aspects.
To honor the 20-year milestone of “The Last Airbender,” Paramount is unveiling an extensive collection of fresh “Avatar” content. This includes web series, immersive events, merchandise, and video games.
