Avatar 3’s Massive Budget Revealed for Fire and Ash

The cost to make James Cameron’s new sci-fi film, Avatar: Fire and Ash, has been announced before it hits theaters on December 19, 2025. The movie was filmed at the same time as Avatar: The Way of Water, which finished filming in December 2020.

What’s the budget for Avatar 3?

I just read in Variety that 20th Century Studios is going all-in on the next Avatar movie, Fire and Ash. Apparently, they’ve budgeted over $400 million for it! That’s about the same amount they spent on the last sequel back in 2022 – somewhere between $350 and $460 million. It sounds like James Cameron is still making the most expensive movies ever!

James Cameron returns as director and producer of Avatar: Fire and Ash, and he also co-wrote the script with Rick Jaffa and Amanda Silver. The film stars Sam Worthington, Zoe Saldaña, Sigourney Weaver, Stephen Lang, and a large ensemble cast including Oona Chaplin, Giovanni Ribisi, Kate Winslet, and others. Like the previous Avatar film, this third installment is over three hours long. The movie’s creative team includes cinematographer Russell Carpenter, set decorator Vanessa Cole, costume designer Deborah L. Scott, production designer Dylan Cole, and composer Simon Franglen.

After the brutal war against the RDA and the death of their oldest son, Jake Sully and Neytiri now face a new danger on Pandora: the Ash People, a fierce Na’vi tribe led by the cruel Varang. The synopsis reveals that Jake’s family will have to fight to survive and protect the future of Pandora in a challenging battle that tests them both emotionally and physically.
