Ava DuVernay, Chloë Sevigny Among Female Directors and Talent to Participate in Miu Miu’s Tales & Tellers Conversations at Art Basel Paris

As an admirer of the intersection of art, fashion, and storytelling, I find myself utterly captivated by the Tales & Tellers program at this year’s Art Basel Paris, curated by Miu Miu. The opportunity to witness such a diverse array of talented directors, artists, and creators share their experiences and insights is truly a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.

At the Palais d’Iena, during Art Basel Paris, Miuccia Prada’s fashion brand, Miu Miu, has revealed an impressive schedule for its Tales & Tellers discussions series. This event, in which Miu Miu serves as a partner, will take place as part of the public program.

The idea for Tales & Tellers originated from Polish artist Goshka Macuga and is overseen by Elvira Dyangani Ose, the director of Barcelona’s Museum of Contemporary Art. This engaging, custom-tailored art project features a blend of immersive on-site experiences, short films, and thought-provoking discussions. The concept for Tales & Tellers was inspired by Miu Miu’s artistic and filmmaking collaborations.

Starting with a stylish event known as a vernissage on October 15th, marking the beginning of Art Basel Paris, this year’s initial Tales & Tellers program will unite directors, performers, and artists who have been part of Miu Miu’s Women’s Tales or collaborated with the brand during their fashion shows.

On the 16th and 17th of October, a total of four discussions will take place over two days. These talks will feature filmmakers such as Ava DuVernay, Chloë Sevigny, Zoe R. Cassavetes, Lila Avilés, Antoneta Alamat Kusijanović, Crystal Moselle, Carla Simón, Catherine Martin, Haifaa Al-Mansour, and Isabel Sandoval, among others. During these conversations, they will share insights about their personal lives and professional careers.

From its beginnings, Miu Miu has delved into themes of femininity, self-image, and the female perspective. In 2011, they initiated the Women’s Tales film series as a means to provide a stage for female directors to express their unique interpretations of womanhood through diverse narratives, tales, and cinematic styles.

For the last three years, Miu Miu has staged its semi-annual fashion shows at the Palais d’Iéna in Paris, alongside the Tales. By blending art and fashion, these events have showcased the creations of female artists through immersive installations and captivating visuals.
