Australia’s animation studio, Pixel Zoo Studios, known for its work on popular brands like Bratz and L.O.L. – Surprise!, is venturing into original content production by establishing a new division called Pixel Labs. They have appointed Emmy Award-winning children’s TV veteran, Josh Fisher, to spearhead the development of this new segment.

Fisher will manage Pixel Labs from a newly established office in Los Angeles, signifying the Brisbane-based company’s initial expansion into the United States. This development was disclosed to EbMaster by Paul Gillett, founder and CEO of Pixel Zoo, as well as Sebastian Gonzalez, head of the studio.

Renowned for providing top-notch animation services to international clients such as Hasbro, MGA Entertainment, Spin Master, eOne, and Moonbug Entertainment, Pixel Zoo is an affiliate of MGA Studios. The unveiling of Pixel Labs marks a transition in focusing on developing unique intellectual property across movies, television shows, and digital media platforms.

As a cinematic enthusiast, I’m thrilled to share that we’re expanding our client base with the debut of Pixel Labs! This new creative division is all about empowering artists and storytellers to explore their limits, crafting unique worlds and tales that breathe life into fresh, original narratives. This move aligns perfectly with MGA Studios’ mission – to generate daring, globally-recognized franchises that inspire the imaginations of young minds, whether they’re engaging with our content on or off the screen.

For over two decades, Fisher has been immersed in creating content for children. In his previous role at Netflix as Senior Manager for Kids and Family, he managed shows such as “Go, Dog, Go,” “Daniel Spellbound,” “Action Pack” and “Super Monsters.” Beyond Netflix, he has also held executive positions at WildBrain, Spin Master and Brandissimo!, where he spearheaded the NFL’s global youth strategy.

Fisher expressed his excitement about collaborating with Paul, Seb, and Pixel Zoo’s agile and gifted team. We look forward to joining forces with diverse talent worldwide on a robust collection of movies, TV shows, and digital/YouTube projects aimed at reaching young audiences across multiple platforms,” said Fisher.

Gonzalez stated, “We’re thrilled to collaborate with Josh, whose inventive ideas and vision have been instrumental for this fresh project. Currently, we’ve got several joint productions underway, a blend of our intellectual properties and projects submitted by creators globally.

Pixel Labs currently has several projects in development:

As a devoted fan, I’m excited about “The Secret Explorers,” an exhilarating CG-animated action-adventure series for kids aged 4–7. This show, inspired by the much-loved book series, is a collaborative effort with Spain’s Liquid Rock. The story revolves around a dynamic group of young heroes who embark on thrilling journeys, leveraging teamwork and technology to tackle real-world challenges. MGA Entertainment is crafting an engaging toy line and devising a strategic plan for YouTube.

As a cinephile enchanted by tales of the fantastical, I can’t help but express my excitement for the upcoming adaptation of “You Wish,” a captivating story penned by Jeff Victor, published through IDW’s graphic novel series. This magical journey follows a young girl who uncovers her hidden half-genie lineage and embarks on an adventure to save her mother. Being a part of the creative process, Victor will lend his expertise to both the film and television adaptations, promising an authentic and enchanting experience for all of us eager fans!

The animated series ‘Fixie Pixies’ is a creation by Corey Powell and Aaron Simpson. It tells the story of three enchanting pixies, who use their magic to refurbish tiny fairytale abodes, all while resolving peculiar problems within these homes.

“Samuel Keene’s Creation, ‘The Feline Sorceress,'” Refers to an innovative series originating from Australia that revolves around a young girl who discovers her pet cat is actually a member of a clandestine coven of witch cats.

Pixel Labs intends to expand its lineup of original projects by collaborating on productions, forming alliances with content providers, and transforming novels and comic books into screenplays.
