Atsuko Okatsuka‘s next comedy hour has been given a title and a release date.
As a movie enthusiast, I’m thrilled to share that my next stand-up comedy special, titled “Father,” is set to premiere on Hulu on June 13. This will be the 8th original comedy special under Hulu’s comedy initiative, Hularious. Can’t wait for you all to watch it!
In her comedy special, Atsuko, affectionately known as ‘Mother,’ humorously admits to professional success but a lack of knowledge about everyday basics. Some examples include taking a 7-year break from doing laundry and realizing that marriage licenses come before weddings.
In 2022, the special “Father” was written and overseen by Okatsuka, whose debut special on HBO was titled “The Intruder.” Alongside Okatsuka, Ally Engelberg and Ryan Harper Gray also served as executive producers for this project. Additionally, Gray directed the special.
Okatsuka was recognized as one of the top 10 comics to keep an eye on in 2022 by EbMaster. During her “Full Grown” tour between 2024 and 2025, she sold out over 200 shows. Her small-screen appearances include “History of the World: Part II” and the animated series “Fairview,” while on the big screen, she’s featured in films such as “Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse” and an upcoming Jonah Hill-directed black comedy titled “Outcome.
One of the many stand-up performances making up Hulu’s fresh comedy collection, Hularious, features “Father” as one offering. This series debuted in November with an hour from Jim Gaffigan, and other performers include Bill Burr, Ilana Glazer, Jessica Kirson, Ralph Barbosa, Matteo Lane, Sebastian Maniscalco, Chris Distefano, Andrew Santino, Zarna Garg, and Roy Wood Jr., among others. Hulu has also acquired previously released comedy specials from 800 Pound Gorilla, Comedy Dynamics, and Don’t Tell Comedy to beef up its comedy content lineup.
