At the Malaga Film Festival’s sidebar, the newest series from Atresmedia, titled “Losing the Case,” made its first appearance. This humorous legal drama chronicles the story of a respected lawyer whose life takes an unexpected turn when he experiences a severe OCD episode in court.
Hailing from Atresmedia and Boomerang TV, the series – a reunion of many of the creative minds behind the successful show “Alba” – features acclaimed actress Elena Rivera in the lead role. Montse García, Atresmedia’s head of fiction, and Luis Santamaría from Boomerang TV return as executive producers, joined by Susana López Rubio and Javier Holgado, the original creators and scriptwriters of the show.

Atresmedia and Boomerang TV collaborate on a new series that brings back many of the creative personnel from the popular show “Alba”. Award-winning actress Elena Rivera stars in this production. Montse García, Atresmedia’s director of fiction, and Luis Santamaría from Boomerang TV reprise their roles as executive producers, with Susana López Rubio and Javier Holgado, the creators and writers of the show, also returning to their roles.
The triumph of “Alba” paved the way for the creation of either “Losing My Mind,” an international title possibility, or “Losing Judgment,” a term with a legal connotation.

The success of “Alba” resulted in the production of both “Losing My Mind” and “Losing Judgment.” The former could be used as an international title, while the latter refers to losing one’s legal bearing.
Given the massive global success of ‘Alba,’ it was a natural choice for us to collaborate with its creators once more,” said García. (Informal)
Having collaborated effectively with them on multiple successful projects like ‘Entre Tierras,’ we began seeking additional opportunities. We considered a legal procedural to be an intriguing possibility, provided we could develop a captivating lead character and a compelling original concept.
As a cinephile, I must say that ‘Perdiendo el juicio’ hooks you right from the start, seamlessly fitting within its genre while offering both standalone episodes and storylines that carry across the entire season. The production values are top-notch, with every scene expertly filmed on real locations, and the artistic team has truly outdone themselves. I have a feeling this series could really strike a chord with viewers.
Speaking about Rivera, who plays a contrasting character compared to “Alba,” as García put it, it’s a pleasure having her on the team.
Right from the start, it was evident that Elena Rivera was perfectly suited for the leading role. Elena is an intriguing actress who brings depth to her characters due to her versatility and unique sensitivity. Moreover, I must add that Elena Rivera consistently delivers exceptional contributions to our projects, making everything smoother. There simply isn’t a more fitting actress for this part.
When creating a series about Obsessive Compulsive Disorder, the makers successfully navigated a careful path, overcoming several obstacles along the way.

The team skillfully handled a TV show on OCD, striking a delicate balance and tackling various difficulties.

In producing a program about Obsessive Compulsive Disorder, the makers showed great finesse in dealing with both the challenges and maintaining equilibrium.
Garcíe observed that series and films become vivid when they move onto set. It’s where the script blends with the director’s vision and the actor’s talent for interpretation. The tone of ‘Perdiendo el juicio’, being a mix of lighthearted moments and heavy court cases, was indeed challenging. However, I believe there was mutual understanding among everyone involved, and the actors truly excelled in their portrayal of their characters.
The show, helmed by directors such as co-creator Jaime Olías, María Togores, and Pablo Guerrero, will debut on the Spanish streaming service Atresplayer on March 23. Prior to this, it will be broadcast during primetime on Antena 3.
García emphasized that the narrative, topics, and characters in “Perdiendo el juicio” perfectly position it as a compelling series capable of attracting a wide range of viewers, all while serving as a comeback for procedural dramas.
In our view, it’s crucial that the content offers diversity, not just for us but across the broader industry as well. For a while now, procedural shows, traditionally tied to free-to-air TV, seemed to be fading away. However, the demand for them has proven to be strong. Shows like ‘Suits’ have enjoyed a resurgence in popularity, and series such as ‘The Lincoln Lawyer’ and ‘The Good Fight’ have garnered international acclaim. More recently, ‘The Pitt’ has been captivating audiences globally.
Similarly, “Losing the Plot” carries a universally appealing quality that might resonate with global viewers as well.
As a film enthusiast, I can easily relate to Amanda Torres, the main character in ‘Perdiendo el juicio.’ Just like everyone on Earth, we’ve all experienced stress and anxiety, and understand how hard it is to get a second chance. This universal struggle forms the backbone of her story, and from there, various scenarios and characters become instantly recognizable: suspense, humor, romance. ‘Perdiendo el juicio’ is an incredibly entertaining series with the potential to be a hit not just in Spain, but worldwide. It has all the right ingredients.
Besides the film “Losing Sight,” set to release on March 21st in Malaga, Atresmedia is also debuting its fresh musical series “Mariliendre” at the festival. This series, airing on Atresplayer starting April, revolves around a group of gay friends living in Madrid, who reminisce about their past and the popular songs that defined their youth as they reconnect with each other.
