I’m thrilled to share that my favorite game, Astro Bot, has just received an exciting update! This time around, it includes five brand-new levels and some cool appearances by additional bots from Team Asobi. Their award-winning platformer keeps getting better!
First unveiled at Sony’s June 2025 State of Play event, this update introduces a fresh galaxy, called the Vicious Void, for gamers to traverse. Among the four levels are Twin-Frog Trouble, Suck It Up, Handhold Havoc, and High Inflation. Team Asobi is keeping the name of the fifth level secret for now. With these new levels added, Astro Bot now has more than 90 levels in total.
In a recent blog update, the developer hinted at some exciting possibilities upon finishing the new galaxy, implying that there could be some fascinating discoveries awaiting players. Therefore, it’s time for adventurers to jump in and explore the hidden treasures.
In every Astro Bot update, you’ll find fresh appearances by Special Bots making cameos, and this time, we have some to share that players can uncover. One such character hails from Sucker Punch’s upcoming Ghost of Yotei (which is getting a special spotlight in State of Play).
Two additional characters, Cloud and Sephiroth from Square-Enix’s Final Fantasy 7, have been incorporated into the game. The character Cloud will perform his signature move, Omnislash, when provoked. Another beloved character, 2B from NieR: Automata, is also present. Previously, fans had speculated why no characters from Square-Enix or Final Fantasy were included in Astro Bot at its launch, so it’s great to see these characters finally added.
Besides introducing fresh stages, Sony revealed during their June State of Play event a unique, limited-edition Astro Bot DualSense controller. This new controller showcases a slightly altered facial expression compared to the previous Astro Bot controller. Unfortunately, at this time, it hasn’t been made available for preorder. However, Sony has assured us that it will be released later in the year, and they plan to share more details about it soon.
In February, Astro Bot gained PlayStation 5 Pro compatibility along with tougher, additional levels. This platformer by Team Asobi was a multiple Game of the Year winner, bagging awards at The Game Awards 2024 and BAFTA Awards 2025. TopMob ranked it among the top 10 games of 2024.
