Assassin’s Creed Voice Actor Is Terrified Of Ledges

Roger Craig Smith, renowned for his voice acting roles, has given life to numerous iconic video game characters such as Sonic the Hedgehog, Batman from Arkham Origins, and Mirage in Apex Legends, who are cherished by many players. However, it might come as a shock to fans of Assassin’s Creed that Smith, who brought Ezio Auditore da Firenze to life – the character known for his daring feats like climbing ledges and taking leaps of faith – is actually scared of heights himself!

During an interview with Forbes, the avid gamer Smith shared an unusual anecdote when asked about his most memorable gaming moment. This tale caught the attention of fans of Assassin’s Creed.

Smith remarked, “Scaling the peak of a tower in Assassin’s Creed II and synchronizing to unveil the map – that breathtaking and grandiose debut to the game has always left an impression on me. Despite my apprehension towards heights, this game would make me jittery as I navigated up there. My heart would flutter with excitement, but it was a stunning experience. To be included in such a moment and witness the culmination of everyone’s hard work was an ‘Amazing!’ moment for me.

Smith disclosed the game he would continue playing for the remainder of his life, should he be restricted to just one.

Smith replied, “I might as well admit I’d be covering the entire Assassin’s Creed series for my gaming span. That alone would keep me entertained for a lifetime. Beyond the privilege of being involved in the franchise at its early stages, I’ve consistently found pleasure in every game. The music, narrative, graphics, and gameplay—it all harmonizes beautifully, and that combination is seldom achieved as perfectly as it is in these games.

Smith mentioned that his schedule has been packed with work recently, leaving little time for gaming, which he described as an unhealthy lifestyle, expressing a need to retire from being a dedicated gamer.

Despite the fact that Smith has always been known for genuinely appreciating games, following the explosive debut of Apex Legends in 2019, Smith and fellow Apex Legends voice actor Chris Edgerly (who portrays Pathfinder) engaged in numerous live-streamed gaming sessions together. During these streams, they would play Apex Legends and amuse their unsuspecting teammates by using the voices of their Apex characters over the voice chat.

Generally speaking, Smith appears incredibly satisfied with where his career stands. When posed the question about any video game voice roles he regrets not landing, he merely expressed appreciation for the chances he’s been given within the gaming industry.

Smith shared that lightning-like opportunities have frequently presented themselves in both his personal life and career. He’s had the privilege of being the voice behind iconic characters like Ezio, Batman, and Sonic. Truthfully, he eagerly anticipates the next challenge. It’s awe-inspiring to ponder the existence of someone who passionately enjoys gaming and storytelling, crafting a new creation that might one day become the next Assassin’s Creed.

If we talk about the upcoming game in the Assassin’s Creed series, Assassin’s Creed Shadows is set to release on March 20th (Thursday), but you can read TopMob’s review of the latest addition to this long-running franchise right now.
