Assassin’s Creed Shadows On PS5 Pro Will Have An Extra-Fancy Ray Tracing Mode

Prior to its launch towards the end of this month, Ubisoft has divulged a bit about the graphics performance for Assassin’s Creed Shadows on PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 5 Pro. Unlike previous games in the series, Assassin’s Creed Shadows is designed exclusively for current-generation consoles. On PlayStation 5 hardware, you’ll find three different graphical settings to pick from. Ubisoft highlighted that only the PlayStation 5 Pro console can utilize extended ray tracing, a feature that adds realistic, ray-traced reflections across the entire game environment.

On PlayStation 5, gamers seeking a smooth 60 frames per second (fps) performance might prefer the Performance mode, as it provides an upscaled 4K resolution and strategic ray tracing specifically for calculating diffuse lighting in the Hideout section of the game. Conversely, Fidelity mode offers upscaled 4K with standard ray tracing, but this means playing at 30fps. If you’re looking for a compromise between quality and speed, the Balanced mode provides an upscaled 4K resolution at 40fps with regular ray tracing; however, it requires a 120/240hz display and HDMI 2.1.

For the PS5 Pro, Performance mode delivers 4K video at 60 frames per second (fps) and standard ray tracing, while Fidelity mode provides 4K upscaling at 30fps with enhanced ray tracing. The Balanced mode on the PS5 Pro works similarly to the base PS5; it demands a 120/240hz display and HDMI 2.1 connectivity, offering a 4K upscaled experience at 40fps with extended ray tracing.

Ubisoft demonstrated some fresh gameplay for Assassin’s Creed Shadows, highlighting the multiple routes players can choose with protagonists Naoe and Yasuke. Both characters are versatile, capable of stealthy or aggressive tactics during missions. Notably, Naoe is proficient in staying concealed, while Yasuke tends to be more assertive in his approach.
