Assassin’s Creed: Shadows leak shows off sim-like house building

As a seasoned gamer with over two decades of gaming under my belt, I must say that Assassin’s Creed: Shadows has caught my attention like no other. With its blend of stealth, action, and now, base-building customization reminiscent of The Sims, Ubisoft is truly pushing the boundaries of what an Assassin’s Creed game can be.

In contrast to past versions, Assassin’s Creed: Shadows appears to offer a greater depth of gameplay. This is achieved by Ubisoft drawing inspiration from popular Sims games for their forthcoming title.

Indeed, Assassin’s Creed: Shadow promises a lot of stealthy maneuvers, unexpected hidden-blade strikes, and the opportunity to explore Japan through two unique characters. However, a recent leak from Ubisoft’s Gameplay Diary hints at incorporating some elements reminiscent of The Sims in its gameplay mechanics.

Earlier, a Gameplay Diary leak appeared on IGN China (later removed), revealing additional insights about the breathtaking environment, changing seasons, character actions, and numerous other aspects.

What was particularly notable in the brief video was the capability to design and customize your shelter from the ground up.

In the video, we learn that the main character will receive an acre of land, allowing them to construct their hideout according to their preferences. The footage demonstrates how players can design and modify their own homes, arrange them to form a village, and even create paths and smaller features like water wells to enhance the landscape.

In contrast to earlier Assassin’s Creed titles which only offered minor customization options, particularly on the protagonist (with some exceptions like base expansion in Valhalla and occasional additional items), the level of base modification seen in Valhalla, Odyssey, or even Origins and Syndicate is unprecedented. This significant shift in allowing players to tailor their bases as extensively as this is a major departure from the usual Assassin’s Creed gameplay.

It’s worth noting that as it’s just a leak, we don’t yet know all the details, but it appears Ubisoft might have borrowed some ideas from The Sims. This suggests an increased focus on customization and diversity, going beyond combat, armor, and weapon options.
