Assassin’s Creed Shadows Early Access cancelled by devs amid delays

As a seasoned gamer with over two decades of gaming under my belt, I’ve learned to take game delays and changes in stride. However, the recent turn of events regarding Assassin’s Creed Shadows has left me scratching my head.

Ubisoft has scrapped Assassin’s Creed Shadows Early Access amid massive delays and changes.

Originally planned for release on November 15, 2024, the launch of Assassin’s Creed Shadows has since been pushed back and is now set to arrive on February 14, 2025.

Even though the release has been delayed by a few months, enthusiasts of the series remain excited to immerse themselves in the upcoming Japanese-themed Assassin’s Creed adventure. This installment promises to offer two playable characters and an entirely fresh world for gamers to discover.

Besides the game’s postponement, Ubisoft has announced that people who pre-ordered the Collector’s Edition are now unable to play the game ahead of its official release date.

According to Insider Gaming’s report, Ubisoft announced during a Discord discussion that they have scrapped early access plans for Assassin’s Creed Shadows. This decision has led to a price drop for the collector’s edition of the game, which will now retail at USD $230 instead of its previous price of USD $280.

Although all other items in the collector’s edition remain unchanged, it’s important to note that this could be adjusted. According to Insider Gaming, these potential alterations might stem from the challenges Ubisoft has faced so far in ensuring historical authenticity and cultural sensitivity.

When Ubisoft postponed the release of Assassin’s Creed Shadows, it was because they desired extra development time to make the game even shinier and more refined.

Since that time, developers have faced significant criticism, as whispers spread across the internet suggesting that Yasuke, a playable character in the game, might be removed.

However, as we reported at the beginning of October 2024, this does not appear to be true.

Not only are there worries about the precision of Assassin’s Creed Shadow, but it has been announced that the sequel to the adored 2020 game Ghost of Tsushima, titled Ghost of Yotei, is set for release in 2025 as well.

Since Shadows and Ghost of Yotei share similar release times, it’s now going to be quite challenging for Assassin’s Creed Shadows as it finds itself going head-to-head with the other game.

The action-adventure game “Assassin’s Creed Shadows” is scheduled to launch on Valentine’s Day, 2025, available on PC, PlayStation 5, and the latest Xbox consoles (Series X|S).
