Prior to the recently released US sales rankings, analyst Mat Piscatella from Circana (previously known as NPD) shared some information about the successful debut of Assassin’s Creed Shadows, which hit shelves on March 20th.
Based on data from Circana, Ubisoft’s open world RPG quickly became one of the top-selling games in 2025, landing in the top five for total dollar sales. Even more noteworthy, it ranked as the second highest-grossing game in its first week, surpassed only by Monster Hunter Wilds, a massive hit from this year.
Initial indications seem to imply that Shadows has been a grand slam for its financially strained publisher, Ubisoft. We had faith in the game’s success due to its strong brand recognition and promotional efforts. The key concern lies in whether this success will be sufficient to get Ubisoft back on solid footing.
After the US sales charts for March are released, we’ll get a clearer picture of how well Shadows is doing. Ubisoft stated that it has attracted around 3 million players recently, but it’s important to remember that the number of players doesn’t always directly correlate with sales figures (although they often align to some degree).
