It’s possible that Assassin’s Creed Black Flag may soon receive a much-awaited remake, as hints from Edward Kenway’s voice actor suggest an imminent unveiling of the news.
Your preferred Assassin’s Creed game, which happens to be Odyssey for me, is incredibly subjective, but there’s a consensus that Black Flag stands out as the best among all Assassin’s Creed titles. If you’ve immersed yourself in the world of piracy and found pleasure in playing as Edward Kenway, it’s tough to argue against this claim.
Although Black Flag might seem somewhat outdated compared to AC Shadows’ visual enhancements, it’s important to remember that the thrilling adventure was initially launched in 2013 – a full decade ago! But don’t let that deter you, as there are whispers of a brand new remake potentially being unveiled soon, thanks to hints dropped by the voice actor behind Kenway.
Assassin’s Creed Black Flag remake coming soon according to VA
At a gathering, as mentioned on X, Edward Kenway’s voice actor, Matt Ryan, was autographing posters for enthusiasts. In this interaction, he inquired from one fan if they had completed Black Flag. Predictably, the player affirmed they had. Ryan responded, “It seems you might need to play it through once more… there’s a reason I mention that, but I can’t disclose the details,” while offering a mysterious glance towards the camera.
During an interaction with fans, Matt Ryan, who voices Edward Kenway in Assassin’s Creed, seemed to suggest a possible remake of Black Flag when he said: “Have you finished the game?… Well, it seems like you might have to play it again.” He added, “There’s a reason I say that, but I can’t reveal it…

It seems quite likely that we’ll hear about an announcement or even a remake soon, considering he was aware he was being recorded and players have been advocating for a remake. After all, suggesting so openly that players will embark on the adventure again might be too clear-cut to be misdirection.
It’s uncertain whether an official announcement will be made or if a surprise release (also known as a “shadowdrop”) is on the table, but considering that Elder Scrolls previously surprise-released their Oblivion remake, it’s possible that one of the well-loved Assassin’s Creed games might follow suit.
As a devoted fan, I can’t help but ponder if Ubisoft could be simultaneously developing multiple installments of Assassin’s Creed: Shadows. Given that the remake rumors surfaced as early as 2023, it seems plausible that they may have been working on this project for some time now.
Though Ubisoft hasn’t explicitly confirmed or denied a remake of Black Flag, it seems that actor Matt Ryan might be privy to some information we’re not aware of yet. So, let’s stay vigilant and watch for updates from Ubisoft, as we hope our pirate-themed adventures may return in the future.
