Streamer Asmongold endorses the proposed legal penalties against Johnny Somali, who is yet to be sentenced on several charges in South Korea.
Known as Johnny Somali but originally named Ramsey Khalid Ismael, this individual has gained notoriety due to his inflammatory live videos. In these broadcasts, he often travels to various nations such as Israel, Japan, and South Korea, where he frequently engages in confrontations with local inhabitants.
Previously, Somali was apprehended and penalized approximately 200,000 yen (equivalent to $1,358) due to excessive noise in a restaurant in Japan. Presently, he’s found himself in South Korea, facing multiple charges and waiting for the verdict.
On March 7, 2025, with a hangover, Johnny Somali made a court appearance and admitted guilt for Obstructing Business and two offenses against the minor crimes act. He currently has another charge of Obstructing Business pending against him, for which he has not yet entered a plea.

A Business Obstruction Charge may result in a maximum imprisonment term of five years – this implies that if Somali is convicted and given the maximum sentence, he could potentially serve ten years in prison.
Asmongold praises Korea for punishing Johnny Somali as “example” to nuisance streamers
As he prepares for a new trial on April 9, online discussions have been swirling about potential implications for Somali’s future. Streaming personality Asmongold speculates that this situation could establish a significant precedent for other troublemakers in the broadcasting world who aim to create chaos internationally.
He started by expressing his surprise, saying, “It’s quite astonishing, it’s a significant amount.” Then he questioned, “Is it truly just that this individual serves a 10-year sentence for this? On one hand, it seems excessive, but on the other, I can’t say I feel much compassion either. After all, his entire career was built on harassing others and causing public disturbances.
Essentially, he’s the one who will serve a lengthy prison term as a means of deterring others from engaging in similar activities. By making him an example, they hope to convey a strong message. Consequently, his imprisonment for ten years is a more compelling deterrent than deportation.
It’s great that he’s receiving severe consequences, as his behavior serves as a warning to others about the potential pitfalls of traveling to Korea and behaving inappropriately.

It’s not just Somali who has faced criticism for their behavior during foreign travel; in February 2025, a few broadcasters visiting Japan, like Ice Poseidon, encountered trouble when they were approached by police after picking and consuming oranges from someone’s tree without permission.
Previously, other international livestreamers had caused chaos in Japan. For instance, YouTuber ‘Fidias’ ignited online fury when he attempted to navigate the country without paying for public transportation fares, aiming to travel entirely for free (or, in his case, without spending any yen).
