Notable Twitch broadcaster Asmongold has expressed that he’ll be relinquishing his leadership roles at OTK and Starforge, as a part of an apology video released after receiving criticism regarding his statements about the Palestinian situation.
On October 16, 2024, Asmongold published a 20-minute video apology on YouTube, where he expressed regret for his comments about the Palestinian conflict, calling them “awful, distasteful, and unkind.
He went on to outline his future plans for content creation, saying that he will start cutting down the hours he spends streaming to create more YouTube videos and focus on “trying things that are fun, trying to laugh more with people rather than at people.”
Beyond this, Asmon expresses his intention to focus on personal growth, admitting that he has been sliding backward into a less desirable personality trait over the past two years, becoming more abrasive or difficult.
“I really need to sort myself out, bring order to my thoughts, and make some changes in my life. Things are getting overwhelming, and I feel like my life is falling apart. It seems chaotic, and I can’t help but think that things aren’t going well.
Towards the closing moments of his stream, Asmon announced his intention to relinquish his leading positions within streaming group OTK and computer company Starforge, both ventures he helped establish.
“I plan to relinquish my leadership roles at OTK and Starforge, as well as all related responsibilities. They’ve agreed to this decision, recognizing my need for change. Primarily, I want to make this move for personal growth, hoping it will help me become a better person for everyone involved.
In addition to our chat, I’ve shared with you all that I, being an avid gamer, have a travel plan set for the tail end of 2025. I can’t wait to personally explore the captivating landscapes of the Middle East and immerse myself in its unique culture – just like how I get lost in my favorite video games.
Over the years, I’ve had extensive exposure to negative portrayals of Islam. I’ve voiced my criticisms and discussed it extensively with others. Through various mediums, I’ve gathered a lot of information about it. However, despite all this, I’ve never personally encountered or experienced Islam as it is often depicted.
Besides asserting this, Asmon expressed his intention to personally clean his notoriously messy home, avoiding the assistance of professional cleaning services. He considers this act as a form of “atonement” or penance for his past mistakes.
He expressed, “I intend to deal with these issues on my own, as I feel responsible for the wrongs I’ve committed and for allowing my life to spin out of order.
In his recent video, Asmongold’s comments continue to stir controversy, as they stem from remarks he made during a live stream on October 14 regarding the ongoing conflict in Palestine. He stated that he wouldn’t be deeply affected by casualties in Palestine because, in his view, their culture is inferior and contradicts the core values of the West.
Later the same day, he issued an apology for his comments towards X, and Twitch suspended him temporarily on October 15.
When Asmon resumes streaming, his ultimate goal is to establish a more enjoyable and upbeat atmosphere for his audience, all the while focusing on enhancing his personal life as well.
