Asmongold explains why Twitch should ban all political streams

According to Asmongold, he would prefer to completely prohibit political discussions on Twitch, although he thinks it’s unlikely that the Amazon-controlled platform would comply with his wishes.

By 2025, Asmongold became the top-viewed North American streamer on the web, shifting from a conventional gaming content creator to regularly delving into political discussions, simultaneously expanding his secondary channel, ‘Zackrawrr.’

The shift hasn’t been devoid of disagreement; on the contrary, it’s stirred up debate, with him and other political analysts like Hasan facing backlash over certain statements. Consequently, a multitude of companies have withdrawn their advertisements from the platform due to this issue.

Previously, Twitch introduced a fresh Category Tag for political content, allowing viewers to conceal political live streams and enabling businesses to choose not to display ads on such streams.

Currently, Asmongold suggests that for optimal ad earnings, the platform might want to implement a total ban on all types of political content.

Asmongold says Twitch should ban political streams, but won’t

Streaming live on Twitch, I’d like to point out that Hasan, Tectone, Denims, and Central Committee are responsible for about 95% of the public relations drama happening across our platform.

He posed an interesting question regarding troublemakers in schools: if you were to eliminate the bottom 5%, how much of the school’s issues would be resolved? Most people estimated between 70 and 100%. Interestingly, on Twitch, only about 5% of users create approximately 90% of the problems.

Asmongold suggests that Twitch might benefit from a policy to prohibit political discussions in order to minimize public relations issues and maximize ad revenue, as he believes prominent streamers like him, Hasan, Tectone, Denims, and the Central Committee often cause about 95% of the platform’s PR problems.

The broadcaster went on, stating that if he was in charge of Twitch, he would advise the creators to stop such behavior or face a ban, as their content was giving the platform an unfavorable image.

Yet, he’s of the opinion that Twitch might never prohibit political discussions and finds it challenging for their team to distinguish between what constitutes as political content and what doesn’t.

They find it difficult to make a clear distinction because they are deeply entrenched in the political landscape of California. In essence, most people understand the difference between politics and other matters, but for them, this distinction seems elusive.

On the purple platform, it’s not unheard of to prohibit entire categories of content. For instance, in the year 2022, certain slot-based gambling sites were forbidden, while activities like poker and sports betting, as well as other forms of gambling, remained permissible.

2024 saw Twitch enforcing stricter guidelines regarding the contentious ‘censor bar’ trend. Specifically, they prohibited suggestive nudity as part of a revised clothing policy update.
