Ashley Avis Tapped to Write and Direct ‘American Wolf’ for Apple (EXCLUSIVE)

As a passionate wildlife advocate and film enthusiast, the news of Ashley Avis being tapped to write and direct ‘American Wolf’ for Apple Original Films has filled me with immense excitement! Her life experiences and dedication towards the protection of endangered species, as evident from her work on “Wild Beauty: Mustang Spirit of the West,” make her an ideal choice to bring this captivating story to life.

Ashley Avis has been tapped to write and direct ‘American Wolf‘ for Apple Original Films.

The movie, penned by Nate Blakeslee, follows the gripping real-life tale of O-Six, an exceptionally intelligent alpha female wolf. Her meteoric rise and heartbreaking descent ignited a worldwide debate about her kind’s plight. O-Six’s adventure intersects with those of a solitary naturalist, a passionate advocate, and an adventurous biologist, who jointly take significant risks to preserve the delicate rejuvenation of wolves in Yellowstone. At this point, the film remains under development and has yet to receive final approval.

Blake’slee will assist in the production of a film on the Appian Way, which is supervised by Leonardo DiCaprio and Jennifer Davisson.

Initially, the film was developed by Appian Way for Warner Bros. However, after watching Avis’ documentary titled “Wild Beauty: Mustang Spirit of the West,” which delved into the U.S. government’s management of wild horse populations, Appian Way hired Avis to write and direct, and they pitched “American Wolf” to Apple.

“Wild Beauty” received a nomination for the 2023 Critics Choice Award and was also recognized with a Special Congressional Commendation. Before the announcement of her latest film, Avis had already been actively involved in advocating for the welfare of wolves, working to prevent acts of cruelty and senseless killing against them.

Beyond her activism, Avis is also preparing to write and direct the remake of “City of Angels” for Warner Bros, with Charles Roven and Paul Perez serving as producers. Most recently, she directed “The Lamb,” making history as the first Western woman to direct a film in Saudi Arabia for MBC and Jeremy Bolt. Previously, Ashley wrote, directed, and edited the reboot of “Black Beauty” featuring Kate Winslet and Mackenzie Foy for Disney+. Avis, along with her husband and producing partner Edward Winters, founded Winterstone Pictures in Los Angeles.

As a seasoned talent manager with years of experience under my belt, I’ve had the privilege of working with some of the biggest names in Hollywood. Avis, for instance, is represented by a powerhouse trio: WME, Hopscotch Pictures, and Yorn Levine. Blakeslee, on the other hand, is managed by the esteemed Hotchkiss Daiy & Associates. And let’s not forget about Appian Way, which boasts representation from LBI and Hanson Jacobson.
